I had the pleasure of playing here on Sunday with Junior, NWjocko & Val.

The course is a bit of a stunner in an amazing location. If your in the area its definately one to play.
Yes, the greens are a bit wacky and they've been levelled out since the course was built in 2008,
but we didn't think they were unplayable or OTT, if anything they added to the enjoyment of the Round.

A couple of pics of us walking The Old Course too.

Loved it when I played it and enjoyed it more than the old course!

how did you get on with the 17th?

I think we were all pretty knackered by the 17th after 3 days playing and the course is pretty heavy on the legs isn't it. It was looking a bit daunting.
3 of us hit irons in and made par, I won't say which 3 :D

A stunning hole, I wish I could of taken some photos but my battery had gone.

How did you get on with it?

Looking back I don't think there's a better tee in the world from which to hit a flat out shank!!!

Pedro, not played Kingsbarns which is meant to be pretty special, Castle Course as good as anything else up there though.

the wind picked up when we go to it and there was a 4 ball in front about to tee off. Every one of them went splosh then it was turn to go hit a hybrid to the left of the green and luckily hit the bank on the left and rolled lovely to middle of the green :)

Was buzzing it made it but even more so the 4 ball behind me all cheered and clapped. I had no idea they were watching either !

Still 3 putted mind though lol

Looks quality, is it reputedly the next best course after the Old course?

Did you stay in the grey old toon?

Its hard to compare tbh mate with it being so different, Its very similar to Castle Stuart. So its hard to compare with the New course with it being totally different.

I'd say Layout and Design wise no doubt, The setting is stunning but I really like the New Course as Theres something a bit special about playing in the town.

We stayed in the town, Few beers in the Dunvegan etc..

some great pics and haven't played the Castle course just the Old and New but it does look good. Nothing beats staying in St Andrews everything about the place is top notch experience, and I would imagine it cranked up a couple of notches with the open rapidly approaching.

When my four ball played the 17th we all hit the green, and all three putted.

Lovely course, but the greens ruined it for me. Would not return.

There is a premium in hitting the correct part of the greens, I appreciate they are quirky but for me that is part of the enjoyment of plotting your way around some of these links courses.

I think you would need to play it a lot to get used to the greens. When we played some of the flag positions were just daft. I don't mind the odd roll off the green, but when it rolls from near the pin, off the green, and then rolls into deep hay it is too severe.

Love to see the Pros play it, to see how it should be done.;)

Not sure anyone has mentioned it, but the Jubilee is a cracking course, more difficult, than the Old and the New. I know it is Golfcitydwellers favourite, and he is not a bad judge.

Jubilee is a great course, tough as t..s aswell like you say.

Eden isn't too shabby either, ridiculous really the quality of courses on offer there within 10 minutes walk of the town centre!

Did you play the Castle before they softened the greens rich? They were pretty extreme but manageable really. First time I've played it but I know they took a lot of stick over the greens when it opened so changed a lot of them to make them less severe.

Played there two years ago, so after the changes.

There were some daft pin positions when we played, mostly on pimples on the green. Played in October and it was not wet, so not sure why. We played the Old, Jubilee and Eden, and I had decent scores on all three and was hitting the ball well. Played tee to green the same at the Castle, and would have struggled to break 100. I hit and stayed on about three greens. Hit and rolled off at least another six, and not just off the green, but into real deep rough. The practice putting green gave us a good idea what the course would be like. I lost a ball in the rough around that.

Definitely a marmite course, especially amongst teh locals. Loved the holes, views, condition etc it was just the greens that beat us up.
