Southport Links Championship - leading scorer -21 through 2 rounds

Well....it's a big comp
He's 15 shots clear
He's shot 2 UNDER "GROSS"
Followed up by
5 UNDER "GROSS"

That's kinda hard to take in.
Have you played with anybody that's shot UNDER par Gross....??
Or
Anybody that's done it 2 days in a row.....??

I've never played with anyone who's been under par, but I have seen a friend of mine, who's not a member of a club and does not play in comps, shoot level par with two bogeys, two birdies. He plays of 7 usually when we have social knocks, he's a good golfer but is still an awesome footballer so plays competitively still. He plays maybe 6-10 times a year usually around the 7-9 hcp mark so for him to shoot level par round Chart Hills was exceptional scoring, proving it is entirerly possible.

Beating your handicap by -9 day one & day two beat it by -12... GULP!
Have to think this bloke has worked really hard on his game - that's unbelievably good.
Rather glad I didn't enter this one! We're sitting on a forum, imagine if you were sitting in 2nd place!!!

In 2015 I shot 135 (-7) net for 36 hole medal and lost by 2 shots... little gutted would be an understatement.
Since then the lowest to win one of these on our course is 139 - I've come nowhere near that since!

yeah the bloke in 2nd is currently -7, and is 14 shots behind!!!

I'm not sure what all the fuss is about, someone i know often shoots these type scores.....

He is off +5 though:rofl:

Just a quick question on this subject because I've never known anyone who had a + handicap - how do they work it out on the course? Say on Stableford does it just mean you get a shot less on SI 18, 17, 16 etc? So if SI 18 is a par 3 you'd get two points for a birdie?

yes, you add shots on at the end. the other week he won a comp with 2 under par gross and 3 under CSS, but still goes up 0.1

Let's say he is a genuine 7 and has hit the purple patch of his life..............

can you imagine the looks he's getting as he's walking around? Shudder to think!

Wow 48pts around West Lancs is a fantastic knock.

There's only 4 more scores above 36, the rest are between 17 and low 30's

Well, if it walks like duck, acts like a duck chances are it's a duck ;)

That West Lancs score against handicap is impossible. It stinks to the heavens

It's a different player to be fair, but even he was off 12 :mmm:

A 12 handicapper shooting 1 over gross around West Lancs is absurd.

Sorry I never made it clear, it's another player off 12 who has shot 48pts at West Lancs today.

That just does not happen, level par got through regional qualifying for the Open this year and last year. A somewhat legitimate 13 does not break 76 regardless of it being off yellows or how still it may be with every pin on the flattest bit of the greens.

Perhaps Mr. 21 under was a better golfer, got a dose of the shanks, had some lessons, maybe threw in some aimpoint and learned to pitch? Possible?

Especially at west lancs, it's one of the toughest along the coast.
