Southport & Ainsdale

You'll enjoy it. Check out the lounges also, as an ex-ryder cup venue.

Note:- The 2nd hole (par 5) has been lengthened, so if using a rangefinder, it may be out.

It is a mix of parkland but on links type ground. The 16th and 17th are very hard but great holes.

Enjoy.

Played there before going to watch the Open at Lytham in 1988. Cracking course, with a really difficult long par 3 to start. I assume the 16 is the hole over the sheer wall in the middle of the fairway ? Took us a while to realise where the hole went, and you don't want to thin one. You can have a peek at Hillside as well.

That's the one. I think it is called the mumbles. The bottom of the mound (mountain) is about 300 yards from the yellows, but if you get too close you can't take say a 3 wood for your second, which most want to do on a par 5.

What a cracking track that was!!!

Played with a mate, who's a pro, and a member from S&A so was able to play it from the white tees and he gave us great lines off some of the blind tee shots.

A really enjoyable day on a course that was probably the fairest Links course that I've ever played. It was the most still day yesterday, so the course could not have played any easier, but was still a good test.

Greens were excellent for time of year. I really struggled with the reads as they were really subtle breaking on most of them, kept trying to find break that wasn't there. Managed to avoid a bunker all day which kept the score ticking over, definitely some that you really need to avoid.

No easing into the round here either, 190yds par 3 from right in front of the clubhouse window, putting green and pro shop......no pressure then!!!!!

This is a course where a score can be had but, as with all Links, you're in for a bumpy ride if the wind blows!! You get to see most of the trouble from the tee so there aren't many nasty surprises awaiting over a mound or dune anywhere.

The guy who was a member ranked S&A behind both Hillside & Formby, they must be very special courses as this is a real beauty!!

If you're in the area, go play here!! In fact, even if you're not in the area, take a trip out and go play here!!!

For the record, 77 blows....saw me lose 2&1 to the pro and relieved me of a tenner, well worth it though :)

Glad you enjoyed it, we lost a pairs matchplay last year. Your right about the greens, most are straigtish putts, but you play as a break, but they stay straight. Definitely greens that you over-read.
