Southgate - a lot of dosh?

But we don't want a manager who wants the job just for the money and kudos. We need him to have passion and the desire for Englands cause - that's why he has to be English.

Thankfully the successful English sports teams don't folllow that mantra

Passion and desire will never be as important as tactical ability

Already had the job and didn't succeed

I think you you will find Hoddle had a better win percentage than nearly every other England manager, sacked for non football related issues and could have gone on to be a great England manager.

Many will never forgive him for his comments/beliefs, but I would rather he was given another go rather than Southgate.

His managerial career isn't exactly littered with success - WC 1998 not exactly a stellar success. So whilst win ratio may look good on paper when it came to the tournament he was found lacking and since then his record doesn't shout out success

Been more successful than the last three managers

That doesn't exactly say much when they include Hodgson and Allardyce

At least Southgate is current and has shown in the U21 he can gel a team in the international scene - it's showing the continuity that other countries follow , move the coaches through the ranks along with the players.

Hoddle has been out of management for a decade now - and the years between that and the England job aren't exactly glowing , he has achieved no more than others that have recently had the job

Have you seen the brand of football the u21s have played in the last few years?

Was good enough to win the Toulon during the summer for the first time in over two decades

The FA should wait until the summer, just in the hope that someone else a bit more exciting comes along. If not, then give it to Soutgate. It's not like people are queueing up to appoint him.

Why does an England manager have to be exciting?
Alf Ramsey was one of football's dullest ever managers .............. he did okay.
