Are there secrets to making a good soup, or is it just a case of Googling a recipe?

95% of all good cooking is good shopping. We're lucky enough to live next to a farm that sells home grown veggies and we have an excellent butcher not far away too. Get a ham bone from the butcher for 50p and a couple of quids worth of veggies and herbs from the farm and I've got excellent soup.

I'm eating it with black pepper ryvitas and I'm convincing myself that they're nice :)

Heinz cream of tomato with a multi seeded bagel for me !!

That soup burn looks just like a tomato actually - ewwwwwww !

I don't like tomato :)

Only good thing that came out of it (and I wouldn't recommended it to anyone) was that my grip was much lighter during the golfing trip and swinging was a lot easier, helping my game no end.

.... OK the pain killers and lots of alcohol probably helped a great deal too :)

croutons. leave a ciabatta or crusty roll oncovered (but maybe in the bread bin) for a day or two, dice, toast or shallow fry. if it's a really thick or chunky soup, a soft white bread roll.

I make a nice butternut squash soup, with a few curry spices. Topped with fried onions and mushrooms, served with homemade toasted sourdough, slathered in hoummus.... delish.

Only trouble living doon here is getting a proper Hock, these Sassanachs cannae make soup.

That's a viscious slander

Saindbury's do a very nice own brand Hock

I prefer an Alsace Riesling myself however, but they still do Blue Nun and White Tower as well to go with your soup if you're that way inclined :)

As a trained Sommelier and I think you will find it is Black Tower ;), unless White Tower is a limited edition import........love a drop of Liebframwilch with my soup as well

A thread that discusses favourite soups? This really supports the view of golf being an old man's sport. Next thing you know there'll be a thread to ask for slipper recommendations.
