My game has been going through a crisis of condfidence, I have a really great round followed by weeks of dross. I started on fortnightly lessons earlier in the year but the overly technical nature of my pro and his desire to teach me by the book rather than work with what I had was not really working. On the one good day I had, I shot a personal best but after that it all went wrong again and I was approaching the ball with so many thoughts in my head that I had no idea what was going wrong or right. I was at my wits end.

As it turns out, the answer to my problems was staring me in the face, our very own Bobmac. I quick PM or 2 and a lesson was set up for this morning. An hour later and I leave the range with simple, easy to understand, practical steps to get my swing firing. Previous lessons were left with the feeling that I needed hours on the practice ground just to even think about getting to grips with what I had been shown. Today I left raring to get on the course and try out what I had learned. In fact I did go out and was on the course for a quick 9 holes a couple of hours later. Not all perfect but I shot under my handicap and, more importantly, when it did go wrong I knew why and was able to correct it. This is only the start but I can now go out on the course with my head straight, a couple of things t focus on and the smile is back on my face.

Cheers Bob for teaching me in a way that I can understand, for clearing my head of crap and putting the golfing smile back on my face.

Nice one mate. Good when you can get a pro you can relate to. I recently spoke with a young guy who just had a lesson with another local pro and I asked how'd he get on during it. I felt confused just listening to what he'd been told to do.

That is always the crux of having a lesson, finding a pro that teaches you in a way that you are comfy with. The guy I had before my current teacher was quite technical and although I did make progress, I felt that for the last six months I saw him I was stagnating. The guy I see now has transformed my game in 2012 and I am swinging better and have a better understanding of my swing with the one plane. Even when it's not firing I know why and can usually find a way of getting round in some fashion without it being a complete horror.

He teaches me based on feel, which is what suits me best. I like to feel how a good swing should feel as opposed to the technically correct position. The fact that he uses video, launch monitors etc means I can get an accurate picture of how I am hitting it on each shot and understand what I did and didn't do properly. 14-10 in a year works for me

getting a pro who listens and acts on what you say and want within your physical parameters is a good find.

I find it all toffee when people say it takes weeks for a lesson to 'bed' in and see resluts. I expect results instantly, you fix something and tell me to do it, I do it and it works............

I honestly don't know how it's taken you so long to go and see Bob over any other pro in the area he's by far the best in the Sleaford/Grantham area, and I'm not just saying that because he's the "resident pro" on here. He doesn't change stuff for the sake of changing it even if it's not quite "by the book" (for instance, I still have a slight tendancy to come over the top, but because my back swing starts flat, I come over the top back on plane which provides good results)...But he gets to the crux and makes you understand what and why you're doing stuff wrong.

Bob is a winner.

Fair point. I chose my last pro because he had an indoor facility and that was during the worst of the bad weather. He came recommended and so I gave him a try. To be fair he is probably a very good teacher but he is very technical in his approach and was trying to fix everything to give me a by the book swing and that was not what I was looking for. I did mention this before the first lesson and the first few made sense with changes to my set up etc but then it became far too indepth for me at this stage. Bob found the 2 or 3 things that were causing me frustration, helped me deal with them and I was out on the course striking the ball better and straighter that afternoon.

Pity Bob can't do a national tour as some of us in places remote from Sleaford/Grantham could use his services.

Any chance of DVD Bob?

Any chance of DVD Bob?

I'm sure there's plenty of instructional videos on You-tube including the popular Mark Crossfield.
I have been toying with the idea of doing on line lessons for those who can't get to a pro easily but that's just in the early stages at the moment.

Glad the little changes are helping Greg. If you PM me your email, I'll send you the video clips of your swing.

DVD's are all well and good, but a big part of a pro's (and I believe Bob's especially) is giving advice based on what's in front of them rather than generic swing tips.

As an example, in the last lesson I had I was told to feel like I was leaving most of my weight on my back leg at impact. That isn't something that I'd advise to anyone else just because it worked to cure a fault for me.

Well done Bob, he too has helped my game several times

Bob, i think you could make a very good online teacher far better than many of the USA style sites out there

I think there are various golfers who need help

1. Newcomer who has never struck a ball
2. Improving golfer but doesnt know why or what
3. Average golfer but doesnt know why or what
4 As above except a golfer who knows what is wrong but cannot see the fault to correct it

My idea would be a range teach in where the Pro would be present one afternoon and each golfer purchased 50 balls and paid £20.00 each

The Pro would then spend 2 hours working along the line of a small group say 6 golfers and coaching / watching and giving advice

My range has 3 x PGA Pros and yes you can book a lesson

Many a range session if the Pro would cast his eye over and offer for say £20 advice to put the faults right many golfers would pay there and then.

The problems booking a lesson one on one can be difficult to fit in just when you need it

Bob you can take this idea and add it to the V-Easy Tour sticks MK11 idea !!

Does it show i am in marketing ?
