Something that EVERY GOLFER should read!

HOwever you have got my interest. I have been working on compressing down more. Am I wasting my time. The higher swing plane feels alien compared to my naturally flat (too much at times) plan I'd prefer to use. I can see the benefit for me who lifts out of the shot on the downswing as it is keeping me more over the ball hand has improved my strike and distance but is it really a necessity?

Homer, what do you mean higher swing plane... who's got you swinging on a higher swing plane?

Got my interest as well James me ol' pal. ;)

I like the bit that says that you need two different swing path's for drivers and irons....

This has me wondering that if i have an out to in swingpath, which i do then i must be hitting my irons properly in some ways.....Which leads me to believe that anyone that has on out to in swing path shouldn't really need to change it....

Or am i wrong? :D

It depends what shot you want to play and what your miss is going to be. Playing a straight shot it's easy to miss both to the left and the right of the target.

Geometrically out2in is a bad swing.

How would you go about grooving (I hate that word) an in to out swingpath?

I've been working with two headcovers, one outside the line behind the ball and one inside the line in front of the ball to fashion a 'gate' of sorts. My slicing driver has straightened up somewhat but it still feels like i'm losing some distance.

Swinging in2out is more than just trying to guide the club through the gates, the rest of the swing has to have the right moves otherwise (as you say) you'll have no power.
There are things that you can do to 'influence' the swingpath and force it to come more in2out, these would be....

More weight on your left leg
Grip of the club pressed more forward
Ball slightly more back
Take the hands back to the inside
Turn your left shoulder down towards the ball

To go with what Murphthemog said...
You don't exactly need to change to stack and tilt... you just need to be a bit more stacked and a bit more tilted :)

Try this 'spagetti drill' that I just invented....

Put a piece of long UNCOOKED spagetti on the floor in the middle of your stance, where the ball would be, with it pointing away from you not down the target line.

With ONLY your left hand on the club swing avoiding the spagetti on the way down and hitting the ground (taking a divot) in FRONT of it.

If you hit the spagetti it will snap and you'll need another piece :)

You should find (eventually) that it's a LOT easier to do if you ease your weight onto your left side at impact and the grip more ahead of the spagetti :)

Once you hit the ground in front of the spagetti 10 times in a row pat yourself on the back and then try it with 2 hands.

Try a line of pasta shells if you like :)

It was the best/cheapest thing I could think of at the time that it doesn't matter if you snap.. you could use pencils but with your swing the cost would really mount up! :D LOL

What I meant in simple terms is a takeaway that goes back so the left arm is across the chest and then a simple turn of the shoulders. What I was doing was coming inside way too flat and having to come OTT to compensate.

Alternatively you can just put your little wooden peg in the ground, place your little white ball on top of it, look to where you want it to go...............and not think about anything other than trying to smash the bejaysus out of the bugger!!! :D :D

OK, now move the ball back an inch and try hitting the ball with the club pressed forward 30° or even more!!, it should stop you lifting out of your spine angle. Might even give you a draw if you're lucky ;)

Do you remeber what I said about snapping the club against the edge of the patio step?

Yes and cost me a fortune in broken shafts :D :p

Good! :D :D ;)

30° to start with, no less, like this.........

If you still feel yourself lifting up make it 40°, then 50° until you can just turn and feel yourself hit down on the ball without lifting up or falling back. OK?

Once you get the feeling right you can start to understand the swing and take some of that angle back out.

I'm with you Pieman! If I thought about it this much, gawd knows where the ball would go! It is a simple game - smack it then find it then smack it again!

:D :D :D
