We have had more slips and claims since the move to soft spikes on our courses. So much so, all wooden sleeper steps / bridges have been either coated in non slip paint or been covered in astroturf. We have recently been asked to think abour removing all sleepered steps from the course during next winter and have just a normal banking.
As for damage I still see churned up areas of grass around the hole, even with the soft spikes.
