Member of a club and a member of the pubs golf society. To be honest I prefer the regular competitions of club golf and the desire to cut my official handicap as low as possible. I do like playing different courses with societies and the fun element these days have. Sadly not drinking means I don't get as much out of the 19th hole as I use to and so tend to slip away as soon as the prizes are handed out
I wouldn't know what a "society" was....so membership, I guess?
I suppose folks that like to play, but don't want to join a club might play in a regular society, and fair play....a good social/regular game arrangement.
I reckon that IF there was something through work or the bowls/tiddly-winks club, I'd probably be first in the queue!!
If you ask me, I reckon societies don't get good enough deals.
If I was running a club, I'd let the visitor groups play for a really good deal, then hope to get some back in the bar/food. I suspect some courses (around here at least) could double up on societies with some thought. Having arranged a few days out (just groups really) I often turn down deals for £5 off a £45 green fee.
Both for me and thoroughly enjoy each monthly meet. I think as the lowest handicap player in our society plays off 12 there is a good competition between us and pretty much everybody has a chance of winning something.
Where as in club comps theres anything above 100 players most weekends ,which in turn lessens your chances of winning.
Both for me, I am a member of a Society, we all organize meets through the year, even as near to once a Month, with a Big one every March, which I organize.
I am Member of a Club also, as already mentioned, I like to get as much chance to work on getting the Hcp down as possible.
Both.
Due to work and other committments I can't get to play most Sunday's or mid-week when most club and seniors comps are held. I take a half-day every month for the medal.
The society's based at work. Plays from April to October, with an 'international' in September, plus singles and doubles comps (in the semis of both). They try to rotate the courses we play but as a newbie thery're all new to me.
Haven't made an international yet but next year it's Scotland (Inverness) so I shall be there.
Supprising there isnt more country members, thats the one where you buy points etc (i think..)
Sounds ideal if you do societies too.
You can play in comps but dont have to pay all year.
