Social media

I think it’s a generational thing. Like many my age, I use Facebook occasionally. Nothing else. But I know most kids frown upon FB as a platform for the aged and infirm.

These days this forum, facebook and whats app.
In lockdown I used the Sky forum a lot.
I used to use the ebay's forum a lot until ebay closed a lot of the subjects down and made them about more about an ebay help forum only.

I can’t be bothered with it, all ads and reels i have no interest in and I can’t be bothered trying to block.

Is it not? Would you say Tik-Tok isn't either?
Tik-Tok is not the same as YouTube. I class Tik-Tok as social media, yes, I figured it was basically Instagram but with videos instead of pictures. Except Instagram also has videos. But YouTube is completely different, I don't think it's 'social' media, just media.

It works on a follower/subscriber model though. Sharing to a community. Revenue driven from views/subscriber bases. Just like Tik-Tok. Only difference is that YT allows for longer video share and also allows non-subscriber viewing.

And with the rise of "shorts" on YT, it's sadly becoming more and more like other platforms.

I suppose you're right, and it depends how you use it. I guess I use it pretty anonymously and just watch videos, so I didn't consider it very social.

I think of social media as the ones where you add all your friends, like Facebook, Insta etc and you put stuff out there that goes directly to your friends and family. Maybe my definition is off. YouTube I didn't really think of people using it that way, it's more putting stuff out into the world and hoping literally anyone watches it. I guess all these outlets sort of blur together and borrow elements from one another anyway.

I get that from the anonymous usage side, I suppose that's what sets YT aside in that it allows usage without registration.

But overall, it's sharing with a community (as well as randoms), I have a paltry 850 subscribers but chat with them via comments now and again about the tracks I've uploaded (usually asking where/when I got the records).

I was talking to my 29 year old niece about social media, she mentioned having over 900 friends... I asked how many she actually knows and the answer was far fewer. I'm not even sure I even KNOW more than 900 people.

Here and Whats app for communicating with friends and family in general, also used for work from time to time. Have FB, but go on it about once a year.
Have no time for Insta, TT or any other of the time waisting things out there.
Plus I have a distinct dislike for people self propelling themselves into peoples lives or to spend money they may not have. Get a real job.

I have a Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and tiktok.

I barely really use them mind you other than for golf news.
Instagram is decent for food pics and nicely poured pints of Guinness though. If I’m scrolling it’s usually on here
