So what are you listening to at the moment?

I’d have said that with Television (Marquee Moon?) and Joy Division to start with
Think I got Television wrong…def got a couple of Magazine albums - got names muddled.

And Joy Division - both Closer and Substance are there. I’ve got Unknown Pleasures myself.

Continuing to discover post-punk…only 40yrs late. No matter…yesterday’s late evening discovery was Joy Division - Closer. Not a bundle of laughs but powerful. Must play it through full and loud when my Mrs isn’t in…apparently that’s the best way to listen to it.

Couldn’t be bothered with JD back in the day - was just too dark and, to my ears anyway, not melodic/tuneful enough. But now 40yrs on…might be getting it.

And so my voyage of discovery of post-punk then morphing into new wave continues…with first up this pm…Bowie’s Young Americans, and currently spinning its Iggy Pop’s Blah Blah Blah (OK maybe I’m just feeling a bit Bowie’ish)

Was watching an old Top of the Pops repeat and saw the Lightning Seeds - I thought, whatever happened to them? (Besides the two-yearly trot out of Three Lions). Stuck them on Spotify this morning, thinking they'd had 3 or 4 hits, but surprisingly there was about 10 or 12 songs I recognised and remembered. Maybe my parents had their albums on when I was young or something. 😄 Decent songwriter that feller.

One of my early CDs…from 1997…a cracker. Like You Do: The Best of The Lightning Seeds

Makes me feel rather old you thinking your parents may well have liked them.

Young Americans is the only Bowie album that I found utterly disappointing. (Not that I have all of his stuff).
Will admit that a guilty pleasure is "Fame" - the only track on the album I enjoy.
IMO his best album is Hunky Dory. Never did understand why Ziggy Stardust is regarded as such a classic.

I found a link that still exists to an old band I was in 20 years ago…😬
Forgot about a couple of these songs.

Its a very good album, but probably not my favourite of his (though Five Years may be his best song, IMHO) - but in terms of its classic status, I think you have to take into account just how revolutionary it was taken to be at the time, and the mythology that surrounded it.
