So Long Osama, So Long!

How is killing a guy responsible for over 3500 murders extremism if he had killed in most state of the US he would have received the death penalty so I actually think he got of lightly

Killing innocent people is extremism killing someone who deserved to die is not an extreme reaction which ever liberal spin you put on it

I didn't say killing him was extremism.

Killing him was the right thing to do.

Celebrating his death in public, en masse, is extremism. It is the exact thing the Americans shake their head at when extremist muslims do it after an attack of some description. Exactly the same, in my opinion anyway.

If the shoe was on the other foot, we'd be hearing "that mad lot at it again, look at them all, jumping around celebrating someone dying - they're barking mad"

I agree

Film of that will be shown to the next generation of potential 'freedom fighters' to prove how hateful the West is, and how the war must continue.

Ha ha ha glad the guy is dead, dont understand the ones getting all self rightous about being glad someones dead, some people deserve to die he is one of them, good riddence to bad rubbish the earth seems a slightly sunnier place without out him in it

I'm not certain anyone has said they are not glad he's dead - just that wild celebrations in the streets are a little over the top.

I recall the story of the Commander-in-Chief speeches to the British and American forces prior to the ground invasion of Iraq.

The British one went along the lines of treading carefully and respectfully into an ancient civilisation (the Persian one), being magnanimous in victory but to forcefully meet any resistance.

The American speech was along the lines of lock and load, yee-hah!

I guess a country with such a short global history cannot be expected to have any respect for history when they have so little of their own.

Lots of even more hard line radicals to step up to the plate me thinks.

Changing tack slightly, is no-one else more than a little sickened by NATO's seeming attempts to kill Gaddhafi ?
I mean, his son and Grandchildren were hardly 'legitimate targets' ?

I thought NATO's presence there was simply to stop him killing civilians, and before we know it, we're doing exactly the same thing ?

They can say all they like that it wasnt an 'assassination' attempt, I for one wont believe a word of it.

How do we win the hearts & minds of so called 'extremist' nations if we adopt the same actions, except from 25,000 feet and Stealth Bombers ????

I'm ashamed to be part of it, if Libya wants Democracy, let them fight for it, - its feck all to do with us.
But hang on........havent they got oil ?

it may be a victory ,i dont tho see it as a reason 2 celebrate in the way ppl are,it can maybe draw a line & get some closure for the families & victims of all his terror plots

but good riddance tho

edit:
yep I agree macster

the thing that irks me about the whole situation is where he was found in a mansion near a pakistani training academy and not the caves at the afghan border, how long have they been harbouring him.

I dont actually agree if it was on the other foot and it was one of us who had killed or been responsible for the deaths of that many innocent people, this isn't just the twin towers there have been atrocities all over the world commited with his backing,I think we would beleive the response to be justified

It's never been a secret, Mubarak knew he was there after we invaded Afghanistan the problem was his people supported OBL.

Anyway, on a brighter note, It's about time they took the bins out on a bank holiday

Is it just me that finds the report that his body was buried at sea and seemingly no photographic evidence that they actually got the right guy a little strange?

I agree with a lot of the sentiments expressed on her (and about the bins!) But I do understand the relatives of those who lost their lives in the atrocities feeling it is cause for celebration.

The strange thing is that he was a multi millionaire who had supposedly given up his life of luxury to live in austerity in a cave somewhere for the cause. Wonder what the followers of AQ will make of that?

I do sincerely hope that more innocent people will not be harmed by any reprisals, but fear that will not be the case.

The reasoning I heard on the radio was that they were sure it was him and he's been buried at sea so as to not provide a place of Pilgrimage for any followers.......

Can't see the US coming out and saying they've got him if he's really still walking around Pakistan...

Good news that they've finally caught him. I doubt anyone was surprised to hear that he has been living a comfortable life in Pakistan. Also glad they dumped him at sea so his followers cannot make a pilgrimage.

I'm sure the US have taken video and photographs of his body and also taken DNA samples. The guys at the top would have wanted verification before going public, they are politicians after all.

as with everything else, they will believe the bits they want to believe and claim everything else to be western propaganda.

and yes, the killing hasn't stopped yet.

worst scenario? that Gadafi might claim to be leading the fight against the unbelievers.

as to the death of Gadafi's son - tough. shame about the grandchildren, but all his sons run mercenary armies and if they put their command centres in residential areas there will be collateral damage. the move toward lower yield, precision weapons can't prevent it all.
