How about eliminating penalty shootouts in major competitions?

You just keep playing until someone scores. Yes the winning team would be at a diaadvantage for the next game but it would serve them right.

This is a good discussion and there are some good points here. I think the key is to actually try them out.

Back in the 1980s I was involved with a non-league team and we were going to stage a pre-season friendly with no offsides. All the national media were going to attend, the officials and other team were up for trying it and yes it was a publicity stunt. Naturally the Surrey FA said no and threatened action if we went ahead. It would have been one hell of a wide open game.

That is a very good idea and as you say those games that dont have 3 officials it will mean less moaning at the club linesman and probably mean less fighting in games as well.

Would also on a tactical point open the game right up as defences would sit very deep and this would a allowed a very big midfield to play the ball about in.

Everybody who subscribes to anything to do with football writes a letter to FIFA, The FA, UEFA, SKY, Ford, Vauxhall and tells them that due to the lack of any morals and integrity we will now boycott any brands that sponsor professional football.

Within 2 months SKY would be puting sh*t loads of pressure on the FA and others.

Ok - so it will be wide open as the "water carriers" run around the middle of the pitch for 90 minutes.....that'll get the crowds flooding in.

2. Go to full blown technology. Robot refs and linesmen that cannot make a mistake, cameras following every inch of play and every inch of non-play too, an army of scrutineers watching every miniscule detail of what's happening and a laser death ray for anyone who doesn't like it.

Either that or just ban the whole bloody cheating lot of them and go back to playing tiddlywinks in the pub. It's not a game anymore, it's business. And it stinks.

But I'm getting bored with trying to hear Dalgleish saying the Ref this the Ref that. All the Managers are the same.
Yes the Refs make mistakes - it's a Human thing. He doesn't give a penalty and he's practically strung-up by the fans/players/managers. He's got a split second to make a decision based on what he can see - not on what the Manager claims he can see or the player who's on the wrong side or the crowd who scream for anything.
Before anyone criticises a ref they should have a go at it themselves and see just how difficult it is. 3 people can't keep their eyes on 22 cheats at the same time.

Can you name me one other sport where the officials are treated in the same way as they are in football?? I can't think of one....

I'm sick to the back teeth of Terry, Ferdinand, Rooney, etc running 50 yards to scream foul abuse in the refs face. I have young children - what message does it send to them?? As things stand there's no way they can watch MotD!!

I don't know what the answer is but I hope that the FA and the powers that be find one as I simply can't bring myself to watch another game of football.

If the player is from Man U, Chelsea, Liverpool or Arsenal then it's a foul.

If the player isn't from one of these four teams then it's a dive.
