Aaaaaarrrrrgh. So close to breaking 100 and it all went pear shaped. HID agreed I'd play 9 on Sunday but it was going pretty well so I checked my score after 11 and knew I had a chance to break 100 so I carried on. I played slightly faster than I would do normally and knew my score which didn't help. Anyway I blew up on the straight and needed par on the last to score 99.

Our 18th is a 185 yard par 3 with a green that juts out to the right over a water hazard that hugs its right hand side. Hit a belting tee shot which looked to be arrowing in on the pin ony to catch the edge of the bank and run toward the water. I got up there to see it just about playable but couldn't get it onto the green. Overhit my putt from the fringe and finished with a five. Next time I hope, next time.

Checking your score is the worst thing you can do! It always makes you shoot higher than you otherwise would!

Obviously, you had no choice as you were on borrowed time ;), but I bet had you just been knocking it round, recording you score and not paying attention to what numbers you were actually accumulating, you'd have nailed it.

Keep plugging away though, sounds like it won't be long until you crack it!

My thoughts exactly, once I made the decision to carry on at the 12th and knew where I stood I scored +3, +1, +2, +4, +1, +2, +2.

Thanks guys here's hoping it will be this weekend. Right lunch break time, so I'm off up the heath to practice my wedges!!!

LMAO!!!!! Fair shout Chris but I'd taken Friday off work to play on Captains Day which is one less day's holiday to spend with HID and the littl'un so twas a little cheeky to disappear off for 4 hours two days later. To be fair when I told her I was late because I could have broken 100 for the first time she was very understanding, especially as I had carded a PB. If I'd come back with 120 on the scorecard on the other hand...

No she wasn't! Believe me, all the "understanding" was just the new pair of shoes that your late arrival home is going to cost you but you don't know it yet! The only "personal best" that nearly got broken as far as she was concerned was your non golfing equipment!

Brilliant. I do think she gets it though as she is an avid runner and understands the whole trying to get better element. As for new shoes can't afford them as I spent all my money on Srixons and a new hybrid!!!! :D

if you had carded a 120 the reason you were late would be down to traffic, nothing would be said about the golf!

LMAO, if only! We live so blinking close to the course I can't get away with that one. It's 10 minutes drive with the only delay likely to come on the A12 roundabout. As for not mentioning the golf, the furrowed brow and grimace would give me away instantly :D ;)

Tiger, are you newly married or something????

You never look them in the face, you never see their furrowed brow or grimace and it doesn't matter if they run, sew, do crocheting or play rugby for Hull Kingston Rovers - the sweet smile and "of course you had to complete the round with a score like that" means only one thing - your going to pay the price later my friend!! I know, I have the bruises and empty wallet that proves it!

Ah but the price I will pay will not be financial it will be to make allowances for her crazy running schedule!!!!

Take the flak coming and bask in the glory of a personal best. It is coming as you knew it would. Enjoy the fact that if it hadn't been a race for the final few holes the glory would have been even bigger.

I do agree though that you shouldn't count the score as you are going as it leads to tension and conservative swings. Check back on the Rotella stuff you had and see what he says. Keep it going though. Maybe next time

You should have done what i did last week. Take a day off to play golf. DONT tell HID and just go off at the time you normally would and come back the time you normally would.

No crime = no punishment ;)

Thanks Homer. I normally keep my score on my iPhone or shotmiser so I have no idea how I am doing and wished I hadn't checked. That said when the Srixons arrive and with my new practice regimen I'm hoping 90's are round the corner.

Nay chance. My mate who organised the day is engaged to my missus best mate AND her dad is club captain. Would never have got away with it.
