What a great match, of course John Higgins shouldn't even be there as the cheating git should have been banned for life for what he did last year...if there's any justice Judd Trump will win & it will also be better for the game.

Judd Trump certainly is an exciting young player and I hope he goes on to win the title as it will do wonders for the game of snooker.

Despite the allegations against John Higgins, he is undoubtedly a great competitor and will fight this match to the death.

I look forward to the rest of the final.

Higgins was misled by his manager (who has now been banned for life) and is only guilty of being a bit naive.

Trump is a sensational potter; whether that is enough to beat the experience of Higgins remains to be seen but whichever way it goes 2011 has been a vintage year for snooker.

Classic evening session tonight. Hazel giving her legs a rare outing and looking good, the three old pros giving their wisdom (not a fan of Doherty but we'll let that slide) and some sublime potting from the heir apparent in Trump. I think he's got the momentum and will go on and will 18-11

Cant watch it, just pray for the sports sake that Trump beats the cheating *******, and anyone who thinks people corrupt in sport are a bit naive are the naive ones.

Cricket is currently being ruined by money, horse racing went a long time ago and many other sports are vulnerable, that Higgins is playing any snooker, let alone in a World final after what he did is a disgrace, as is the Beebs brushing it under the carpet - geez at one point in the tournament one of the comms called him a "shining example for any young budding snooker player" - i mean really!!!!

Judd trump is a breath of fresh air to the sport, that in my opinion was dead, apart from ronnie, whos a looney. In fact i was even smiling last night at some of his shots.Higgins was lucky in 2 frames so its closer than it should be.

Has there been any suggestion that Higgins has thrown any matches, or deliberately lost any particular frames in a betting coup?

In cricket there was some pretty good proof that the 3rd ball of the 12th over ( or whatever ) was going to be a no ball, which actually happened.

I'm not convinced that Higgins was anything other than stupid, but I'll listen if anyone can point me to proof otherwise.

Having said that, Trump is pretty good, isn't he.

But..

Higgins is the best matchplayer since Hendry at his best. I think there's plenty of life in this one still

Sorry, they wanted me to pay to get into that site.

:(

However, I read this from the BBC :

Snooker world number one John Higgins has reportedly agreed to take a £261,000 bribe to lose frames in four separate matches later this year.

The News of the World says it has video of Higgins and his manager Pat Mooney making a deal in Ukraine on Friday.

Mr Mooney is quoted as saying they feared for their safety at the time. There is no suggestion Higgins has ever thrown a frame or fixed a match.

Call me an old softie.

But if I was working for the News of the World, and I'd gone to all that time and effort to set this story up, I'd have made sure there was proof of at least one frame being fixed before I released the story.

Unless, of course, they only wanted the headline to sell a few extra papers, and they weren't actually trying to sort out a real problem in world snooker.

He did wrong, and got punished, but I don't believe there was any proof of match fixing at any point. And I believe that Hearn wouldn't run the risk of sweeping any proof under the carpet if there is any chance that it could come back to bite him. Hearn is pretty self centred and I think believes he is more important than any single player, so I think he'd happily have sacrificed Higgins if it put him, and his product in a better light.

Many years ago, Peter Francisco got banned for 5 years & Quinten Hann got banned for 8 years for doing the same thing as Higgins.....if it was a lower ranked player who did this he would have been banned for life.....a mate of mine plays on the Pontins tour (a tour for top amateurs & semi pro's) and he was offered a bribe by a fellow player to lose a match...he reported it to the authorities but they still did nothing as it was his word against the other player

I'm easy about who wins. However, I am a fan of John Higgins, as I was of Stephen Hendry and Steve Davis. I also like Ronnie. :)
It's impossible to know the truth behind the accusations and subsequent punishment.
To my mind, John's not playing quite well enough to be sure of a win at this moment (12-11 to Trump) - I think it's in Judd's grasp. I just hope he doesn't lose his nerve.
Great snooker. :)

Higgins should have been banned for life and shouldn't be there its a farce

I didn't follow the full story, but surely if the crime was bad enough and was proven beyond doubt, then he wouldn't be back in the game would he?

I wish I knew more.

Because he did what exactly.

He could have been conning the gambler. Footballers cheat every game and some cheat 15-20 times a match.

He was gonna take £250k for losing a frame...what about the people who bet on him winning that particular frame...also snooker is a sport played with honesty & integrity...football isn't....Higgins should have been banned for life....cheating ****

Nowhere was Higgins found guilty of fixing a match. There was an independent tribunal whose findings are below.

'The independent tribunal that followed on 7–8 September, hosted by Sports Resolutions (UK) and chaired by Ian Mill QC, concurred that the WPBSA was right to conclude that Higgins had truthfully accounted for his words and actions and to withdraw the more serious charges of match-fixing, but found him guilty of 'giving the impression' he would breach betting rules, and of failing to report the approach made by the News of the World. Higgins received a six-month ban, backdated to the start of his suspension period, and was fined £75,000.

People with a lot more knowledge and a lot more information allowed him to remain in the game. His credibility was damaged but he has never been proven to have fixed any match.

That's the bit that rankles with me.

I used to like Higgins, but now see him in a completely different light. Just a CHEAT!

I'd much rather have seen the youngster Judd win - would of been much better for Snooker.

Golfmmad.
