A couple of days ago I was teeing off and my driver snapped just after impact sending the clubhead flying down the fairway! Much to the amusement of my playing partners, I think it actually went further than the ball. The shaft has snapped just above the Hosel.

I can't understand why, it was on the 14th and I had used it several times in the round with no problems, I didn't (and don't) hit the ground with it, and am careful when putting into the car etc, can only think there was something wrong with my shaft?

It is a Ping K15 with a standard Ping TFC 149D shaft with regular flex. I bought it second hand several months ago and although it has taken a while to get used to I have been driving the ball really well lately, long and straight so definantly want to get it reshafted.

When Ping get back from their Christmas hols I am going to see whether there is anything they will do, although cos I got it second hand, maybe they won't?

If they won't, I was thinking I could get custom fitted for a replacement shaft, I have never been custom fitted before so am unsure of my swing speed etc and even if the shaft was right for me in the first place.

Do you think this would be a good option, and how much will it cost to get a decent shaft fitted?

No need to tell Ping that it is 2nd hand and if you have not abused it they will replace it no problem.

I don't know what happened to Evesdad but my guess is Callaway were not easy to deal with!!! Ping however will be very easy to deal with.

Ye I hope so, the Ping website says they are back after the 3rd of January so I will contact them then.

I still feel tempted to go for a proper custom fit though, to make sure I have got the right shaft.

Callaway were a delight to deal with as always. I sent an email to callaway who then explained what to do easy, drop club off at dealer was hardest thing I had to do.

I would get your club/shaft replaced before getting fitted. One your owed the other will cost you!!

The same thing happened with my Ping G15 driver in the summer - I only had the club two months before it broke.

The same thing also happened to my friends G15 driver after 4 months of use. And.....it also happened to another that bought the same club from the same store as we did.

I was told that it happens because they use cheap glue between the shaft and the head. Not sure if this is true or not but there is clearly a problem with these clubs.

The shop sent it off to Ping and I got a new one, two weeks later. Touch wood.....both mine and my friends clubs have been fine.

Seems like it could be a common problem then, hopefully they will send me a new one aswell.

Same happened to my G15 last Monday, went for an iron fitting on Tues and Pro reshafted it (not Ping shaft) had 1/2" taken off and have been booming it down the middle today, felt like I was in control of it more.
