Smart polo shirts....

So are we saying this is unacceptable. If so...why?

Because I would not pay £15 to advertise a make of car I (no longer) drive or an oil I do not use.

If, however, those companies wish to pay me for being a human billboard I may reconsider.

It is always a bit odd that some polos are fine and some are not. I can wear my Tigers one with just a small badge on it but cannot wear something like some of the Bunker mentality golf gear as the logis and slogans are too big. That F1 shirt would be a no but replace the Mclaren and mercedes logos with Nike or Adidas and there would be no issue. All a bit silly to my mind

Because it's not a golf shirt and is a F1 shirt will the appropiate sponsership attached to it

It's no different to the polo type football shirts or cricket or rugby

HiD once bought me a designer baseball cap when I joined our place which was great but for two little details.

1. I never wear one.
2. It was from French Connection when they were branding the FCUK logo very heavily. I had to explain to her that as a very traditional club such an item may well have caused a considerable kerfuffle in some quarters 😄

Best tell kaymer then :whoo:

But then he is paid to display the SAP, Mercedes and BOSS logos. Even the watch prominent in the photo is part of a sponsorship agreement and professional tournaments all rely upon the continued involvement of sponsors.

The problem with the shirt you originally highlighted is that it represents the thin end of a potentially very large wedge.

I like those Smiffy, they'd be fine. Shame they dont do them in plain red. I have bought many of mine from Uniqlo, who also have some of the button down onese. they are perfect for golf.

I really dont get this "it's not the right material" nonsense some people talk about (not just about golf). It's a top, it will be fine unless it's really thick and heavy.

For a tenner, if you can wear any colour (which at most clubs you can), it's definitely worth buying a few. Good spot

I turned up to a course last year wearing my club poloshirt, but was asked to remove it as I wasn't playing a match and if the committee saw me they might feel i was 'trying to poach membership' ... I was 100 miles from my home course!

I have a branded RBS poloshirt that has The Open Championship Claret Jug embroidered on it, but that's not an issue, even though its 'sponsored'.

Name and shame that club.

Ferrari do a 'golf range' (in partnership with puma) consisting of t shirts, bags, gloves, shoes etc.

Whilst shopping with the Missus yesterday in ASDA I came across these really nice polo shirts, which are a little bit "different" with their button down collars, and I think they will look really nice on the golf course.
Only a tenner each, so cheap as chips.
I bought a couple, really nice material and iron up well!!

So you can look smart on the golf course, for not much money!!
Have a look at tesco as well rob they do some cracking chinos for 15 pound! I see it as 2 birds one stone, wear on the course or down the pub.

If I ever get to the stage where I am offended or upset by the type of polo shirt someone is wearing on a golf course you have my permission to shoot me. There and them. No warning. Boom. It will be a merciful release.

Seriously, thats not right at all? I wonder if they would ask me to remove my clubs headcovers and not use my club logo pitch mark repairer :-)
