Made a number of breakthroughs today. But the biggest one was the simplest. I've had loads of issues with my chipping. The last thing I did on my pre shot routine was look at the flag, look at the ball and swing. What I discovered today was that the last look at the flag was overiding my visualisation of the landing spot. Hence my chips were landing near the flag. I now look at the landing spot instead. The result? Holed three chips in 30 mins and was getting consistently within three feet.

What small change(s) have you made that have made a big difference?

Good man Tiger....
Her is another trick for you that a senior gave me and it works a treat....Its for chipping around the green from hard pan or hard lies.....
Sole the wedge behind the ball with just the toe of the club keep the heel off the ground....It'll take a few swings to get the hang of it but its great for just nipping the ball off the ground as sometimes the wedges bounce can catcth the equator of the ball rusulting in duffs and skulls.....Try it the next time your practising ;)

I have been obsessed with having a smooth tempo to my swing resulting in a lazy hit at the ball. I have gone back to making sure I get through the ball at impact and my driving is 50 times better, the swing is still smooth but has regained the power I lost.

I love when things like that happen, gives you new confidence about one part of your game that can flow over into other parts.

For me it was standing more up right when putting. Seemed to get the body out my swing, just rocking the shoulders, leading to more consistence on the greens.

Thanks for the support and your stories. Nice to hear about other people having mini breakthroughs. I'm trying to build slowly at the moment so keeping swing mechanics in check with regular lessons, regular putting and short game practice and steering clear of woods. So far so good but when I step up on the big boys course and I'm only just clearing 200 yards with the 3 iron I hope temptation doesn't get the better of me.

Any more positive mini victories out there?

I have found that masturbating before each competitive round really helps you focus. Really been helping.

It's all right Smiffy.
If you recall, the worlds no.1 putted into a brook at Augusta  so you're in good company.
I take it it was 50 ft long putt, downhill and about 13 on the stimp?

My biggest mini success was watching somebody on one of those Explanar swing plane systems a while ago.

Whilst stood watching I realised my swing path was really, really, really steep (like Jim Furyk's but not quite as bad) so made an effort to flatten it.

50 balls later at the range and for the first time ever I discovered I could actually hit my driver after having it in the bag for a year & half and never using it!!!

Saved myself a fortune on not using the Explanar! lol
