gentlemen

after playing today and back in the bar(as you do)having a few and bit of a laugh, the talk got onto talking about the skycaddie and using them on the course and in comps,
could i get them to beleve that you are able to use them
so can anybody tell me were i get the info about them so i can go back with some hard facts!

Believe it's upto your own course to deem them legal for competition play.

I may be wrong.

Look at the rule book. R&A have decreed that certain DMD's are legal for competition play subject to a local rule put into place by your Committee.
No rule - no use..

The absolute answer from rule 14

Note: The Committee may make a Local Rule allowing players to use devices that measure or gauge distance only.

Like others have said - it's up to your committee to make the local rule. No local rule, then not legal.

Was out with a guy yesterday using one never looked into one before as i always had the thinking the courses i played in would not be on there.. BUT THEY ARE lol

So i am really thinking about getting one.. I am sure there will be some older models out there now that would do my job nicely, some piece of kit i must say never seen anything like it being used before.

The EGU have sanctioned their use in competition, the EGWA have not (I think). So an EGU comp run on a course could allow DMD despite a local ruling that prohibits a club comp using them (and conversely, an EGWA comp run on a course that permiited DMD would ban them!)

R&A, USGA pole squatting as usual.

(be interesting to see how that changes when the EGU and EGWA join hands later this year)

You have to remember that for these purposes (ie rules) the "committee" is the competition committee - and nothing to do with the course per se. Ok, for your course & mine, they are probably one & the same people but strictly speaking DMDs are permissible (or not) for the competition, not the course on which it's being played. So they might be allowed by your club for your comps, but if the EWGA came to your place, they'd not allow them. At least not yet.
