I am having problems with my broadband
Phoned sky last week and they said router fault sent a new one.
2h30 tonight on the phone as new router doesn't work either. Connects via wireless but then runs very slow then times out. Shows 70meg dl and 17mb up but we are getting nothing in house. Have to wait for the team to look at it. Wednesday is apparently the earliest I will know any more.
Anyone any ideas ?

Thanks

Have you tried connecting via ethernet to laptop/pc and seeing what happens there? It sounds like internal set up interference is its showing a synch speed of 70Mbps.
Try to ping google or the BBC website via the command prompt and check that its hetting packets in and out.

Thanks mate. Yeah I pinged and all packets went all looked ok.
Don't have a laptop with a working Ethernet cable at present so just the iPad.
Tried changing DNS too but it made no diff.

If its pingjng ok then it doesnt sound like its a connectivity problem.
Best bet (and Sky will ask the same) is to connevt via ethernet to rule out (or in) router fault. But to be honest it doesnt sound like the router is faulty if its pinging.
Try resetting from the default gateway. Go to 192.168.0.1 and it will ask for a username and password. Username will be sky amd password admin.
There is an option to restore settings.

Yes it's the same on all devices.
Tried with 2 different routers and done a reset.
Sky even got me to change the DNS to static to see.
Have to try with cable tonight but it's like there is an emp working in my house!

If you can ping google using the DNS then its not that. I think its something causing severe interference. Djmud you change channels for the Wifi output?
You are getting out to the internet beyond thr default gateway but looks like internal wifi is gubbed.

First up, change the microfilter. You'll be surprised at how many drop outs are caused by them failing. DECT wireless phones can have an effect on wifi signals too. Also a strange one, put a spare microfilter on every spare phone socket in the house. No idea why but it was advised by Sky years ago.

Make sure the ipad is set to DHCP, this will ensure that it collects the correct IP addresses is needs to get online. If you are getting a 179 address on your ipad (169 on a windows PC) then it's not polling the Router DHCP for an address, in other words it's not connecting properly.

I'd advise not messing about with the routers settings too much as Sky can end up charging you for an engineer visit if it's deemed that you have changed anything. Happened to me when I used ot flash ROMS on the older DG843GT routers a while back for a more solid connection.

One other thing to do is to restart the router at a busy time of the day. It allows it to sync at a high db, meaning it doesn't drop out when the signal to noise ration drops below 5db. It used to be a big problem for my old Sky connection.

I've always found Sky to be extremely helpful on the phone and usually when it gets fired up to Teir 3 support it can be resolved fairly quickly by them remoting in to the router to fix anything. Just keep in contact with them and try not to mess with it on your own.

We have fibre in and our socket filtered.
Have to wait till weds to hopefully speak to escalating team

I used to just call back later and ask to speak to them and I was passed through. Stuff all that waiting carry on.

Do you get on alright using your phone to connect to it?

None of our devices will actually work on wifi. Phones tablets etc all connect to the router and show what appear to be good numbers etc but then you can't use it for for anything else

ve had 4g since we moved there two years ago. Not sure if anything else has changed. What do you mean by changing the access point?

Change the wireless channel that the router is sending the wifi signal over. I think Sky default as Channel 11. You csn change it from the default gateway (router settings) which can help to rule out something in home operating on a similar/same channel.

Sounds to me like you're getting connected but when it comes to your devices getting out to the Default Gateway it's nothing. Nothing's been changed with regards to NAT rules or anything, there's no DMZ been set or anything? Make sure also there's no been a proxy setting set up on the router. You don't need anything like that.
Edit:

Although I suspect the new router would have ruled all that out if nothings been changed. New router rules out anything in the home being at fault. I reckon it's got something to do with the link outside and to the exchange.
