Quick question chaps. I know the rule regarding single players but I wanted to know if a local rule could override this (to say no standing) or not.
No particular reason for wanting to know, just my natural curiosity, I always keep out the way when out myself anyway.

Some multi courses and some courses have local rules especially on a sat

The etiquette section says

Unless otherwise determined by the Committee, priority on the course is determined by a group’s pace of play. Any group playing a whole round is entitled to pass a group playing a shorter round. The term “group” includes a single player.

Note the words in red.
Further, the Club may require play to be in groups of a minimum or maximum size.

Two of the courses I play also give single groups no standing

I can see both sides to this though as during busy periods singles must be a bit of a nightmare if afforded full standing

anyone going out at peak time as a single is proably asking for trouble, but I personally wouldnt have a problem letting one through whatever the course rules.

Yeah no single group generally does... which is why they'd be a nightmare for the course and its overall pace

Regardless of this, anyone that doesn't let a single player through if there is space ahead needs to take a long hard look at themselves in my book.

100% agree with this. You can let a single player through with barely any hold up to a groups play. You just call them through while the group are walking up to take their second shots. I know I don't like knowing that there is someone waiting behind me while I take a shot.

the problem I have with this statement is that it doesn't actually have anything to do with singles!

basically anyone who doesn't let anyone, two, three or four through if there is space ahead (and clearly the group behind is faster if they are waiting) should take a long hard look at themselves in any book :sbox:

Agreed, but this thread is about singles :D

Anyone going out at peak periods on their own will just have to suck it up and wait. The course will be full and there really is no where for them to go as everyone is having to wait to play their shots. But I do not care if someone is on their own I will try to get them through if the course is not full.

Went for a quick 18 holes myself today, after my putting lesson.

There was a women's comp in front of me, so I held back but they kept on waving me through, all happy to do so and so it should be.

On our course, doesn't matter what time of day a single is always welcome.

We have a two tee start but allow 4 balls off both tees up to 9.30am on Sundays. The notice board allows single or two balls off but reminds them that before 9.30 they cannot expect normal etiquette to be afforded.
