already posted this in "the lounge" but thought i'd ask the question here too

am considering a set of these. But does a set have *all* the clubs the same length, including the woods?
i carry a driver, 3,5 woods, 3,4 hybrids, 5,6,7,8,9, PW, GW, SW, LW clubs (oops! one too many inc putter!!!) . i've seen recommendations to just get 3,4,5,6,7 irons in single length, but as you can see i only carry 5,6,7 in irons and changing to single length (7 iron length) would only affect the 5 & 6 so is it worth a change? The club that gets me in most trouble is the driver, but i presume (???) that is standard length in a single length set - or not?? btw not an expert.. handicap prob around 20 if i had one & i'm 72 years old..

i meant to add.. wouldn't going down the shaft achieve the same thing? You could mark the grip at 7 iron length fr consistency :)

A set you buy new from a shop is not the same as a set you use on the course. It is normal practise that irons are sold as a ‘set’ comprising of 6,7,8 clubs depending on where you start. Ie 3-W 4-W 5-W. Woods are bought independently and a lot of people have them from different manufacturers as are the specialist wedges. Hope this helps

By getting shorter shafts on woods and hybrids would change swing weights that that I am afraid goes way beyond my remit so I have to bail out there

Going down the shaft is definitely not the same. The shafts being all the same length requires different weights in the heads to deliver the correct amount of power to the ball, so if the club is, say, a 4 iron, the weight of the head is heavier than the 9 iron as it has to propel the ball further with no more shaft length to assist.
