Single fig h/cap forumers- what Driver?

I play off 8, and have a TM Burner Superfast TP with 9.5 head, with a Matrix Ozik HD6 Stiff shaft. I got it after going for a custome fit session. Came away with a choice of 3 shafts that were suitable, and managed to find a complete club with the correct spec, so bought it. Took me about 2 months of playing to get used to the club but seems to work fine now .... with the odd falling out between us :)

Still have my old TM R510TP in the garage but the regular speeder shaft is not up to it now, still searching for shafts to replace, so I can have a go of it again :D

I can also vouch for the SuperFast TP (got the 2.0 now but not any longer). It's easily the longest driver I've ever used although the stock 46" HD6 shaft can feel a bit long if you're not on it.

Mizuno mp630 fast track 9.5 fuji stff shaft, hit it ok, not massive but always usually on the fairway.

have the weights set to mid launch, but still goes high, might need something stiffer....

Taylormade R9 10.5 deg set firmly to neutral with stock Fujikura Motore shaft. Simply the straightest driver I've ever hit. What I like about it is the smaller head and the weight which is slightly heavier than most drivers.

good info guys thanks, some drivers there I might have ignored but will have a look, the New TM, New Nike and Mizuno are probably top of my try list but as so many have said its down to the shaft as well.

Glad your going to try the new Nike, I really do rate their kit of late. I would suggest the Tour version of the driver as it looks spot on, the stra8 fit driver is good too but I love the head shape of the tour one.

i had a 907 d2 and i was quite inconsistent with it.

I changed to a callaway ftiq 10 degree this year and my driving has improved. seems alot easier to control.maybe going up a degree was the reason.

I am now in the huint for an ftiq imix so i can experiment with shafts so mine will be for sale :P

When I went for my fitting the fitter basically said I could of changed just the shaft on my 2007 burner and achieved the same stats. I bought the complete club as it was a bargain at the time and meant I didn't have ti distrurb my old driver .... in case it all went pear shaped :)

we go searching in the crap on the right, or the crap on the left

Fragger

At least we see different parts of the course with my drives - we always go looking in the left crap for yours.......:p

Yep. Standard stock G20 10.5 regular.
By everything that is sane this shouldn't work but it does............
Got far more control than I had with the 910, the bad ones are not as bad and good ones just as good.

OK, not single figures, but surely at your level its the shaft more than the driver head. Where are you based Darth ? For me go and see someone like this guy and get something built to your spec.

http://www.tourxgolf.co.uk/

The websites not complete and the facility is fairly new. The guy who runs it used to be the tour rep / club builder for Adams. A friend of mine had an appointment a couple of weeks ago and when he turned up Gary Wolstenholme was there trying drivers. Had a good long chat with the owner Nick and Gary. It's popular with the pro's on the local tours here and anyone of any ability can book an appointment.

I have an appointment on Saturday get fitted for a driver !!

Let me know how you get on, I may consider going myself. I was fitted for irons last year at true fit golf (Widnes), which was quite successful. I am considering getting a new driver, possibly a razr hawk, but may consider getting fitted, possibly also for a putter. How much do they charge though? True fit was £50, but you got the £50 back if you bought the irons through them, I was there about 1 1/2 hours, and could also see the ball flight on their range, which helps also.

Had current driver 5 years. 13 degree Callaway 454 originally with aldila stiff but changed after 2 years to Callaway firm (not a tactical change, a problem with a wedge hitting bag at high velocity resulting in a very short driver at next hole :) ). Have fast swing hence the stiffer shaft. Straightest I've ever had, almost certainly due to loft. Was off 7/8 when I got it. Been off 5/6/7 ever since.

Just spent the last hour reading up on the new ltd edition vr 430cc and it looks very interesting, I see it was launched less than 2 weeks ago so I should be able to test it now

Used a Bang Golf - Bangomatic 9 deg with a Harrisson Striper shaft for many years. I now use a TM 2009 Burner 10.5 Deg with a standard stiff shaft. I find it a good driver for shaping shots.

Mizuno mp630 fast track 9.5 fuji stff shaft, hit it ok, not massive but always usually on the fairway.

I have the identical driver.....plus

Nike VR str8 fit 9.5 deg with Project X 6.0 shaft.........plus

Callaway Diablo Octone Black tour 9.5 deg Project X 7E7 6.0 shaft

Wont go wrong with any of these....selling the Nike if interested.

I'll be single figures after Sundays Stableford so taking it upon myself to reply to this!

I play with the Titleist 910D2 9.5, Diamana blue shaft and I love it. Best driver I've used, easy to hit, straight and sounds excellent. Would recommend adding that to your list to try out.

Over and out from Greg, the soon to be single figure HC golfer. :P

Thanks Greg already tried it and it was good but not great.........for me...I'm not a fan of adjustable heads, sort it out at the fitting stage and if you want to hit high/low/draw/fade then do it with your swing. Who on earth carries a wrench around the course making head changes for different holes?:D

You can't legally anyway, as you are changing the characteristics of a club in the round. I only found this out after buying the R11 - stupid man that I am.

Off shopping for a new driver on Sunday morning as my reg flex 9* Cobra is just too whippy.

On the trial list are Ping G20, Callaway Diablo Octane Black Tour, then a couple of randoms, perhaps the Clevelands and Nike options.

As with many above, I'm more interested in the shaft, once I've found a head I like the look of.

i agree with greg above i just bought a 910- d2 best driver i've ever had

i use to be a taylormade man, last driver was a burner superfast,
now i'm firmly in the titleliesit camp,
for me the d2 just gets up in the air and goes forward, and its a lot more workable to

not a single figure handicapper but used to be :(
due to a freak round of 2 over gross :p

Ping G5 with blue grafalloy pro launch regular shaft 10.5 loft, very easy to hit, just that i never know where it's going.:)

No really, it's very reliable and i've thought about changing it but don't really see why i would.
