I mean no disrespect to anyone 10 h/cap and above, but as some of the GI Drivers won't be relevant I thought it easier to ask single fig handicaps (not that anyone above 10 only has a GI driver) oh I'm getting flustered now but you know what I mean......

I have a Titleist 907 D2 8.5* Red Graffalloy shaft- its not clicking with me, hasn't for years, so
I'm needing a new Driver, so what do you have and why? include the shaft, loft and reason as well please. this will give me a shortlist to try rather than spend ages boring the pro shop or AG.

Thanks:)

I am 9 handicap and have a Imix 13 degree FTIQ and a FTI 11 degree with a Graphalloy prolaunch platinum stiff shaft. 13 Ftiq ultra reliable and 11 degree Fti for when I am hitting it well, 30 yards extra with the Fti. The best advice I have ever had was leave the drivers with 10 degrees or less for the pro's, makes sense as for the average amateur swing speed it is proven that the ultimate loft for carry/distance is 12.5 degrees along with the fact that higher loft equals less sidespin and straighter drivers. I tried out a new 9.5 degree driver for 18 holes recently and was shocked how difficult it was to keep straight and had a shocker with it.

Ping G10 for me. Classic shape and look, great feel and a good solid noise off the face. 10.5* with a stiff shaft (dont know anymore detail than that im afraid)

Do you want forgiveness or out and out wallop? Shaft, clubhead and swing speed will need a fairly specific combination, for myself I found these out from my own experience.

G10/G15 has oodles of forgiveness, TM Superfast 2.0 goes miles with a slightly lower trajectory than the slightly balloony G15. R11 didnt seem to be just as long with a similar stiff shaft.

Currently using a Taylormade 510TP 8.5* with a 757 Speeder X flex shaft. have a few 510TP's with the same shaft in. Cracking driver that I go back to time and time again. Bit dated now but still holds it's own.

Was using a Nike VR Tour w/Diamana Blue Board 83 X, until I decided to throw it at my bag a little while ago. Expensive lesson. Will be using it again but currently trying to paint the head and waiting for a new shaft. Going for an Aldila NV Protopype 80 X as they are supposed to be pretty good.

I generally look for shafts that help keep the ball down and that can handle my swing. Usually look for a heavier and extra stiff flex in most shafts. The club head I like to be a traditional shape and a little bit smaller than most.

I'm not sure about most of this adjustable driver stuff, seems like a gimmick to me. I know loads of people who have them but only one i have seen use it to good effect (that might have been in his head too!).

I would be looking at the new VR Tour driver personally and might well be soon depending on how my custom job turns out!

ive got taylormade tp superdeep 8.5* with a stiff rip shaft in it.
driver feels solid when hit great off the face. recently tried r11 tp
and had it for few rounds didnt feel as good as my own
wont be changing it for a while

Mine is a Ping Rapture with 9 degrees of loft.

Shaft is an electric blue colour and I think it is an Aldila VS Proto. Very stiff - X stiff I think the label says? Not sure. Anyway, I got it from a mate who said the shaft is non-standard but would suit me. It has and the main reason I bought it is simply because it goes further than my previous driver. In addition, I can hit a lower ball with it compared to others I have owned. The shaft is a cool colour too!

I don't think you can go far wrong with Ping woods. The 2 wood I have is a terrific club too.

I highly recommend the Rapture range.

This thread, combined with the one about being happy with what is in the bag has made me realise that I have never bought any club except putters that was not second hand. This is in over 25 years of golf! Quite surprising. I might start a thread on it...

I have a Ping G5 9 deg

Grafalloy red regular shaft.

I like it as I can hit the occasional fairway with it and just about keep up with Smiffy

i currently use the 905r with 7.5* loft but the main reason i use this driver is it's all i could really afford but in saying that i really love it.i think it is easy enough to hit and with 7.5* it still flies very high.it's fitted with a grafalloy blue shaft stiff but that may be getting changed for next season as i need to reduce the flight and spin rate.

I changed to a 9deg Cleveland Launcher 270 with the stock stiff ultralite shaft this year - the difference in weight from my old G10 is amazing.

Titleist 910D3 with a Motore F1 75g shaft in Stiff. Head is 8.5 degree though have just cranked it up to 9.25 degrees for winter

The slightly smaller head of the D3 looks the best for me, as for shaft was a process of elimination. First driver Ive had for 20 yrs that hasnt been an X flex, find that the extra weight and characteristics of the shaft make it play stiffer than most.

Tried probably 15 different shafts when I was buying and this one had the best combination of ball flight and feedback

My Little Fat Bro, Imurg Hcap 5 has a Ping G20 10.5 degree regular off the shelf, bog standard, not fitted .

and when he gets it right it goes miles, ok, he can get 285 on a flyer, 250 is the norm...WHEN he gets it right

He still tries to hit the thing into the middle of next week, then he looses the control and we go searching in the crap on the right, or the crap on the left

Fragger

OK, not single figures, but surely at your level its the shaft more than the driver head. Where are you based Darth ? For me go and see someone like this guy and get something built to your spec.

http://www.tourxgolf.co.uk/

The websites not complete and the facility is fairly new. The guy who runs it used to be the tour rep / club builder for Adams. A friend of mine had an appointment a couple of weeks ago and when he turned up Gary Wolstenholme was there trying drivers. Had a good long chat with the owner Nick and Gary. It's popular with the pro's on the local tours here and anyone of any ability can book an appointment.

I have an appointment on Saturday get fitted for a driver !!

Changed from the Ping i15 9.5* with a UST Mamiya Proforce Axivcore tour Red 69-s shaft to the R11 TP 9* (set to 8*, 1* open) with the Diamana Kai'li 70s a few months ago to get my ballflight down. I've always hit a high ball and while I was keeping the i15 in the fairway, I knew that I was giving up a load of yards yards, especially into the wind where the ball would just balloon. The R11 gave me a lower and more consistant flight and gave me 17 more yards, 11 more of carry. Took some pictures of the trackman numbers from the fitting:

At first when the fitter handed the R11 to me I really didn't like the white, but it did not take very long to get used to. Absolutely love the driver now and can't see myself changing it for a long time to come.

I play off 8, and have a TM Burner Superfast TP with 9.5 head, with a Matrix Ozik HD6 Stiff shaft. I got it after going for a custome fit session. Came away with a choice of 3 shafts that were suitable, and managed to find a complete club with the correct spec, so bought it. Took me about 2 months of playing to get used to the club but seems to work fine now .... with the odd falling out between us :)

Still have my old TM R510TP in the garage but the regular speeder shaft is not up to it now, still searching for shafts to replace, so I can have a go of it again :D

Titliest 910 D2 10.5* set to 12* slightly open with a Mitsubishi Javln FX M6 stiff. Had it 2 weeks and have picked up money both Saturdays. 10/14 fairways both weeks, an improvement for me, and about 20-30yds.

Now after the 910 Fd 3 wood with the same shaft.

Currently use a Titleist 909D2 9.5* with an Aldila VooDoo stiff shaft. I did try the same club with a Graphalloy (spelling?) shaft but found the ball flight was too high.
I had a 905R before but the airline "misplaced" it, along with all my clubs, for 10 days so hence I tried out the 909. I loved it as it worked better than the 905 so it was a no brainer to buy it :)

R11 with the stock fuji blur in stiff.

I drive it like a tit and this seems to be the least tittiest results of drivers I have tried

Titleist 910 d3 with fujikura motore f1 75 in stiff, same as fundy. Tried his, liked it, bought it. Also got an rip 60 stiff which is stupidly light. The joys of adjustable clubs, you can have as many shafts as you can afford. I have the head set at neutral, 8.5 degree loft. I can hit this as hard as I like, the harder I hit it, the better it goes.

I like the 8.5 as I tend to hit a bit down on it, and it keeps the back spin down. If I go to 10 degrees, I might as well drive with a seven iron.
