shortening my driver

Im thinking of shortening the shaft on my driver.
will this give me more control and how much distance could i loose.
please nothing to technical just a rough idea.

Yes it will give you more control.
No it won't affect distance to a noticeable degree. May even improve it if you can't hit the middle of the face now.

Depending on how much you shorten it, it may feel noticeably lighter to swing. You may like it, you may hate it, you might not notice it.

I shortened my driver and hit more fairways with no loss of distance, interestingly I had a playing lesson from a very good pga coach who has just returned from Coaching in China and he told me he cut his driver down.

Try gripping down it, see how it goes and if you like it, just keep gripping down the grip :)
I shortened mine, I hit it well, but i hit it well before also. I shortened it to give me more control, but I don't feel like I can really rip it now where as before I could. Don't get me wrong still goes great but I just think if I had of gripped down the shaft I would get the same results.
