Im having problems, do any pros go along with Phil Mickelsons hinge & hold, my daughter has seen 3 different short game coaches & everyone has tried to change it, even though they can see it works, they just say I would'nt do it that way, instead of working with it & got quite annoyed when I say not to change it.

Not even heard of it. My chipping problems I'm sure are stemming from poor set up, too long a swing and too much lower body movement. I've had a couple of lessons this season and it's getting more of a mental thing now.

I need to clear the mind (won't take long) and go back to basics. It should be such a simple shot. I need to work on the short chips from around the green but also need to get re-learn the high shot (not necessarily a flop) over a bunker. The first guy I saw at the start of the season got me going in the right direction. The second guy helped in an elasoplast kind of way. I'll go back to the first guy (my regular teacher) and go back to basics again.

Why would you want to use a method that the coaches don't work with? This is the method PM has been taught by his coach and if he goes to another short game coach then he will advocate a new method. Just look at Tiger he has had at least 3 major swing changes and is working on another, all to do with who his swing coach is at the time. Leftie has a great short game but it ain't the best, who would you bet you life on to get up and down from any where? Me it would be Tiger (I ain't a Tiger fan) but my god has he got a great short game.

What I am saying is ask around the scratch/low handicap golfers at your club and see if any would recommend a shortgame coach, go to him/her and work with their method. This way if things start to go wrong they are there for a quick check up. If you go down the travelling route and things go wrong it can be a lot harder to get it fixed quickly.

I'm not 100% sure what "hinge and hold" is, but if it involves taking the club back with some gentle wrist hinge and then NOT undoing that angle (i.e. maintaining the hands-in-front) and not releasing the face, then I approve.
I've had lessons on short game and getting into a good preset posture and not getting all hand-sy is totally my method. (I take no credit, I just do as I'm told!)

I'm surprised no-one teaches it near you, it's my prefered method for stock chip shots. There are other effective methods and it comes down to what the player is comfortable with and what type of contact they prefer. I play a lot where the ball lies tight to the ground and i find this technique works well for me, not so good in rough grass where a slightly shallower contact works better in my experience.

Nothing wrong with Phil's method, the point of it is that the club doesn't go back to the INSIDE, it's more of a 'rocking of the shoulders motion' and actually keeps the hands passive through the ball... no flipping or flicking at the ball.

Practice is the key.... does she really need a short game coach already????
