Was knocked out of a Club Matchplay Comp last nt, lost 2&1 :-(

Quite honestly, t'was a harsh lesson in the value of the Short game. I was not only 10yrs younger than my opponent, he was giving me 2shots (11 v 9), and I was considerably longer with most clubs.

Despite all of that, he got up & down out of sand, which I didnt, and he didnt miss a thing from 8' and in, period.

Sure I gave him 2 holes when I lost a ball, and then took 3 out of a Bunker, but the difference in putting was clear, (and I aint a bad putter !)

Time for some boring time on the puting ground me thinks, if ever I am to get back down to 9 (or 10 even ! Curently 10.7 :-(( )

I have to say that I think I'll be doing the same. It may be boring to practice those 3-5 footers but, let's face it, we're gonna have a lot more of them in a round than we do of any other shot, probably.

I was playing at Nairn GC on Sunday and my mate suggested I practice 10x3 footers before the off. That saved me quite a few pars and nailed me 2 birdies. I'll be doing this every time I play now, I reckon. Well worth it.

Ooh, I was back in 34...2 under par and a personal best there, thanks to those good putts.
