Has any body seen the documentary on netflix called the The short game ? It's about the under 8 world golf championships played at pinehurst. It is amazing how these kids play to the level they play an I'm 100% certain they could kick all of our butts at the game :)

There getting hole in ones and eagles and making 20 ft putts to win a match, it's amazing to see this and if you haven't watches it then I highly recommend watching especially if you have kids the same age as them like I do :)

Watched it on Monday, i really enjoyed it and some of the kids in it are really funny, felt so bad for the kid that gets a 10 shot penalty for being about a minute late for his tee time after the rain delay.

See a trailer on you tube, looks a good watch and with it being on Netflix, I'll give it a viewing. That said the trailer I saw, some of the kids did come over as precocious spoilt little brats, talented little brats granted, but little brats all the same.

That Chinese kid shot the lowest of the tournement and would of won if it wasn't for the 10 shot penalty :(
Also that tigeress dad has some issues and I think he the reason so get in a bad strop because that's what he is doing but saying that her swing was unbelievable and you could easily see her on tour kicking butt in the future :)

It wasn't Chinese kid that got the penalty was it?

Wasn't it the kid that was really awkward around people and shy that got it?

Yes that was the kid. Suffers from a type of autism I think they said in the documentary. Great to see how the game can help the confidence of a kid like that. Also the penalty he was given is the type of thing that could make a child pack in the game, very harsh.

Yeah i couldn't understand why it was 10 shots!

There seemed a lot of confusion at the re start and by the looks of it he was a minute late at the most, they need to learn the rules but that was just harsh.

Any idea how I could watch this?

I don't have netflix, I clicked on the 1 month free trial and you have to put bank details ect in.. :(

Any ideas?

Loved this ! was so good to see how some kids are enjoying golf at such a young age. loved the south african kid just a shame some of the parents seem to be so demanding on their own child!

are you with virgin media? if so you get a 6 mth trial thru them without inputting any bank details

What a great little movie. Its really nice to see such well rounded and articulated kids in todays world, from many different back grounds and countries. They could really teach lots to adults.

You effectively "sign up" but you email them to cancel when you start your trial, I did it that way when I tried love film, it was cancelled as soon as the free period finished

It's a good film, but again, some of the parents were rather pushy, I loved he South African kid though seemed to just enjoy playing!

I really didn't see any parent pushing the kids to do anything they didn't want. You could see very plainly each and every child loved playing golf.
One particular parent may have been more vocal than others when their child didn't perform, but he just wants his daughter to succeed.

the French boy's mum was a bit harsh I thought

They all had talent in abundance that is for sure, but at the end when it showed the Tigress reading and the caption came her saying she was seeing a sports psychologist for her attitude, then the camera pulled back to show her dad, and another caption appears, saying , so is her dad.

I mean that guy was a tool, way over the top, poor bairn, no wonder she has attitude and temper issue, if all she is doing is copying her dad and yeah the French lads mam was a little harsh, while the Thai lads mam and dad were all a little to matter of fact which is why he was probably late for his tee time. Really felt for him, you could see is heart just wasn't in it after he got the penalty.

Really? He went around in the least shots, if you give him par at the first rather than the ten he was given.

I looked up this years results and he won it the following year for his age group. As did a few of them.

And Zama, the star of the show imo, also improved markedly again. :)

wasn't overwhelmed by the film. was quite similar to a programme ch4 did a few years ago called trophy kids which featured two young golfers, one of whom was taking part in that world kids golf thing. I think its difficult to gauge standard of the kids seeing as they've only been playing a couple of years at that age and only a tiny minority of parents are going to enter their kids for an event like that.

so it's really about the parents and that nutcase tigress dad. who was very similar to one of the dads in the channel 4 programme who'd called his son "the wolf"
