Short, Average and Long Hitters

Ive got a swing of just over 100mph with my r15 (was fitted so found out all my figures ect) I have used my gps to measure a few of my drives on the course when I'm ripping it and measured a few at just over 270 yards so is this classed as long?because I thought I was an average hitter I class long as the 300yrd plus

300yrd plus is massive

My Arccos app is telling me that my shortest is 183y and longest 232y.

I consider this average and happy as at present its the above but more or less straight and not in the heavy stuff... Which personally is more important to me at the moment.

I also consider the second shot in golf as the most important... But that's my opinion.

Surprised there's been no allusions to Forum Distances yet:whistle:

But for anyone interested they're worked out using the following formula where d equals imagination and n equals coefficient of old guffery :D

For me (10hcp,), i would say <200 is short, 250+ is long, anything in the middle is average.

Tend to worry more about direction than distance nowadays.

Perhaps Clubs makers have any idea when they offer their drivers with different shafts....

If you carry you driver 250 yards or more, go with Stiff;
230-250 yards, Regular; 200-230 yards,
Senior; less than 200 yards.

e.g. long, average and short.

For what its worth I remember winning a dozen Pro V1's at a H4H meet at Blackmoor for correctly predicting what one of the Forums 'long' hitters would drive the ball up the 1st.

With the gm m1 fitting day i was getting a 265 carry and was told that was about average for tour distance. Yet i am the shortest hitter in my usual 4 ball!!!
So when you always take your second shot first it makes you feel like a short hitter ;-)

I know certain people on here require proof.

Assuming you've had a chance to hit the new club on the course, has your accuracy improved?

When i find the centre of the face a miss is still as bad as my sldr and no extra distance at all. Out of the toe is a big difference. I still get the right to left shape that you would expect from the gear effect but its definitely more forgiving than my sldr. I still think the sldr is one hell of a driver

My pal used it today and he often hits it low on the face and he said its gave him more distance over his callaway big bertha.

It so depends on conditions.

Better to go with driver swing speed. That's a truer indicator.

Bottom end Tour players start at 105-110 driver speed. They could probably put a bit more into it if they wanted. So anything around 110 is Tour speed. Below 90 is short, in my opinion, so around 95-100 would be average.

As some others have said, it depends on your level and who you play with. A short tour player would be a big hitter at most clubs.

Some people think I hit it a long way, but put me in a group of similar handicaps and I'd be distinctly average.

That has it's own problems too.

My driver ss is just over 100. A guy I'm normally 30-40yds past went for a driver fitting at a Titleist centre and was measured at 98mph average. He just doesn't have very good impact conditions.

Its so subjective , I play with guys who have been in single figure handicaps for 20 years who carry the ball 200 yards max with their driver

Carry distances
190-200 short
200-220 average
220-230 above average
240+long

Swing speed (mph)
80 short
90 average
100+ long

You need more divisions than short, med, long IMO.

There is a world of difference between my 105-110mph driver swing speed, generally considered pretty long by other club golfers, and the guys who can move it at 120 and up, I know they are rare but there are handicap golfers who have this extra gear, and you can't lump them in with the likes of me.
