Since getting a new corner suite the other week we have been getting electric shocks quite often after getting up. Today, I got up & reached for my less than one year old tablet & got what apparently is a 25,000 volt shock. Now the tablet won't work. I'm taking it to a repair shop tomorrow but the guy is not optomistic about being able to fix it.

Anyone else had this experience?

It will be the material in the sofa causing the problem. Friction between you and the sofa, possibly worse if you have had the heating on so it's dry air around you.

If you have to stick with the sofa, try a throw over it, between you and the sofa. See if that stops it. Ideally it should be made of natural fibres, wool, cotton, linen.

I'm assuming the clothes you are wearing are the same as the ones you were wearing when you sat on your previous sofa? (You are allowed to have washed them in-between 🤭. Just trying to work out what has changed between before and after the sofa, is it purely the sofa?)

In terms of the tablet, you might have fried the components on the board. A minor shock damages them, like a crack in a mug or a slow puncture. It sounds as though you have gone for a full smash or a ripped tyre 😳

Purely the sofa. The material is a lot smoother than the last one with, I guess, more man made material in it. We've researched a few remedies & are in the process of trying them. Trouble is, to test each one we run the risk of tasering ourselves!

You can buy an anti-static spray. Not sure of its efficacy but it might help…

Edit, from RS Components on Team Valley.

How about something conductive on the underside of the sofa thats in contact with the carpet?

How close is it to an electric socket?

I am thinking of a plug with just the earth connected wired to the frame of the sofa.
