Shinkwin, playing safe, ditching the woods

He chipped from pretty much same spot in the play off, so why did the caddie get involved the first time? He wanted to play the same shot.

He got unlucky both times not sliding down the slope into the bunker, I guess fate. He looks solid no reason why he can't win or contend again soon.

Early open leader Thursday before he burns out 

Because it doesn't really matter if he dunches the playoff one in the bunker or knifes it into the ditch. That was either up and down it or its irrelevant because RCB is not 3 putting from 12'

Depends how well he can delete the missed opportunity of 2 guaranteed years (fair enough 2nd will comfortably lock up his card for next year) on the main tour and a nice house/ridiculous car worth of monies. Might take a while.

The mistake wasn't in his choice of second shot. It was a good miss! The mistake was in his 3rd, he was clearly in two minds about going for the pin, or chipping to thirty foot. He chose something in between.

also his two putts on the 18th green. Absolute cardinal errors

Just watched it all this morning before work... and could not agree more MendieGK!
A very tentative putt on 17th as well. Think his bottle started to leave the premises when around the greens, not from tee/fairway.

He should've backed his shortgame more, if he couldn't then it's not solid enough or not mentally ready for that kind of pressure.
Getting into a debate at that point with your caddy I felt he'd lost it.
Easy to say from the armchair though isn't it!

Although medium/difficult slope he actually had nice lies both times!
I think there was an easy chip to back left, would've been uphill flop shot leaving 20-30ft downhill at worst.
And if it went wrong then no ditch/hazard that side either.
In playoff his chip was much better, but that putt made me shudder... UGH!

I agree but I'm still thinking the bunker is easier than that putt, all past history.

Shame for the lad, played so well.

600,000 might ease the pain but that trophy surely even at his stage in career is the goal.

In my day I was always a good judge of knowing what was the right club/shot to play safe.
In the late 1970's I needed a par 5 at the 18th to get down to one handicap......late in the season so it was my last chance at an 'away' score.

I played two perfect 3 woods which left an 8 iron to the pin.
It covered the flag and took an awful bounce just off the back of the green onto a GUR area.
My drop left me no alternative but a really awkward chip which went six foot past and I missed the putt.
