Shaping Ferrules

I've just replaced a shaft in one of my irons, and the ferrule doesn't fit flush with the hosel.

In the past it's been close enough to use acetone to remove a little bit, but this one is maybe a mm out. I'm thinking of sanding it but don't want to scratch the hosel.

Is there a better way or do I just need to be careful and maybe tape around the hosel?
