When you say yips what exactly do you mean?

A yip is an uncontrollable 'flicking' of the hands through impact when putting, usually results in missing the hole on the left for a right handed player. Many big names have suffered most famously Bernhard Langer (about 3 times during his career) which led to him anchoring his putter down his forearm.

Shank for me, sometimes I'll suddenly start shanking my wedge, at least with a yip, your balls still close to the hole on the next shot and not buried deep in a bush!!

Oh there's so much double entendre I could write here, but I'm professional and won't stop that low, but yes Stu you are a shanker, having witnessed it a few times on the course.

An involuntary movement normally in a putting stroke, go and google it. Its an eye opener and has destroyed more people's golf game than a shank ever has.

No don't google it, it'll embed itself in your subconscious and before you know it, those 12 inch taps may as well be 12 feet with you aiming for a hole the size of a thimble.

Having read this thread, I cannot position the cursor sufficiently steady over the dots to cast a vote!!

That's neither the shanks or yips, what you have there is a classic case of the shakes, you need a double whiskey or poison of your choice to stop them.

Only ever had the shanks once, but it whilst whilst I was on a golfing holiday .

Spent hours on the range trying to fix it. Stopped me playing for 3 days and eventually managed to get a lesson from a local pro who helped me out a bit.

I hope to god it never happens again, it's one of the most frustrating things. I would shank 9 out of 10 shots for no apparent reason, I hadn't 'consciously' changed anything.

Personally speaking, shanks are worse, purely because if you can't hit the green, you can't ever hole out.

I've never had the yips (thank you lord), but having suffered many bouts of the shanks over the years i can confirm that they are soul destroying and remove all enjoyment from the game. shanking your way around an entire green in an anti-clockwise direction because you can't hit a chip forwards is no fun, believe me.

Shanks every time for me although both are soul destroying.

either can be soul destroying.

Though i have never had the yips (i assume putting) someone i play with has and its was pretty depressing watching him to be hitting great drives and iron shots on every hole and then 3 or 4 putting from inside 10 feet.

Shanks are the spawn of satan, but when you have them you know your not going to score well there and then. Nothing worse than playing well for a birdie then walking off with a double or worse because you can't roll it in.

For me Tommy Tanks are from time to time an issue and it is a frustrating thing to say the least. Just saps away my confidence over the ball.

Would have voted for Yips too, but so far I've not had that problem. I'm sure that this is an equally frustrating issue for those affected.
