SHANE LOWRY

Automatically become a pro without any choice in the matter eh?...I don't think so somehow. It is entirely Lowry's choice when he turns professional, which as others have said will more than likely be post Walker cup.

Good luck to the guy. He held his nerve really well especially after missing a relatively short one on the 72nd to win it. I have to be honest I was half expecting him to drop his head then and lost in the playoff but he played the hole well every time.

I don't think Rock will come as close again but I think the money gets him into the top 50 on the tour which may have benefits in terms of tournaments he can now play in.

No, now he has won I believe upon turning pro he can gain tour membership from the exemption you get when you win. This is what happened with Danny Lee, I think.

He gets a 2 year exemption from when he turn pro I believe.

I maybe wrong, in which case apologies, however my belief was that the two year exemption starts today and that the date when he turns pro does not influence the date his exemption will end. I think it automatically starts running which is what will encourage most players to turn pro almost immediately.

Even if this is the case though I can't see it being a problem for him, as the clear ability he has should leave him with no problem retaining his card and earning his subsequent place on tour in his own right. He is a superb talent, who on this weekends showing will not cause too much surprise if he follows Mcilroys ascension through the ranks. I for one hope he does have similar levels of success, the more GB & I players in the worlds elite the better IMO

pretty sure it is 2 years starting from the year after you win....so if you win the 1st event of the 2009 season you effectively have 3 full years so he will have exemption til the end of 2011 season.

3000-1 odds were available here on him before the competition... surely his wee mammy and daddy would have stuck a tenner on him just to show they believe in him before hand???
