Something Murph said in an other thread, about shafts. Struck a cord with me. I have always used DG R300 shafts in my irons, never had a problem with them. Anyway since starting back to golf. I decided a full swing rebuild was in order.(get it right before the old habits came back). Anyway job well on its way. Just need to make sure its grooved. So I can swing without thinking. Would call my swing now 3/4 backswing, slowish but smooth with fast hands.( or thats how it feels).

I really started to struggle with my irons. So had them checked out( wound up with new ones lol). Anyway I was thinking that due to age, slow swing etc, maybe "A flex" would be the right way to go. But went in with an open mind. To my surprise finished up with Dynamic gold XP S300. So it was totally the opposite way to how I thought.

I was wondering have any of you guys/gals had similar experiences.

That does sound pretty drastic Dave! Where did you get this fitting done? I'm guessing it was in a shop (American Golf etc?) rather than a 'proper' fitting with a manufacturer or club maker?

No it was with a local pro. I would not touch AG with a barge pole. Hit the irons great now. May have lost around 5yrds length. But the dispersion is great. I can hit say 10 balls with the same club and you could throw a towel over them. Which will do me.Before they could go anywhere. Still play regular shafts in the woods though.

I think you mean Dynalight Gold XP S300. I had my Mp-53 fitted with them and they are on the softer side of stiff in my opinion and are pretty light, I think 109 grams. I thought at the time I would be fitted for regulars. It is a lovely feeling shaft with a nice feeling tip but I could not stick the high ball flight and ended up swapping them for PX 5.5. Of course it was a waist of money as the high ball flight was me more than anything.

Enjoy!

Hmmm OK, accuracy is obviously what it's all about so guess he has fitted you correctly. I got my irons from a proper clubmaker, during the entire fitting process he never once mentioned shaft stiffness, he always spoke about frequencies and how they should be stepped in 7 cycle increments through the set. Theoretically, this could mean a mixture of flexes in the same set depending on various other factors.

It is my understanding that some shafts are measured by frequency and others by flex, sadly there is no industry standard. I would think you could frequency match any shaft but you may end up going though alot of sets of shafts to make one matched set.

True they are lighter than the reg DG. With the Pro just tried loads of different shafts until, we hit on the right one. Flex got no mention. It was at the end that I was surprised as it was not a shaft I would have though would be any good for me. When I saw what it was. I was hitting a big draw/hook with the old ones. Now its straight/slight draw. Ok I know that when I am swinging badly it gets to in to out and that was the main cause of the hooking. But now even the bad ones are alot straighter. Use to be quite good at the game. When I was a youngster. Now I'm a grumpy creaky old man. Hacking around off 16. .
