Evening all,
I went into my local golf shop and came away with a demo model Wilsonstaff FG Tour 6 iron.I know I know i gave into the precious  :D :D
It has a dynamic gold R300 shaft and my own irons are W/S Di7 irons with true temper uniflex tx105 shafts....
My question is i hit my current clubs with a fade never been custom fit and all my woods and driver are stiff shafts...Swing speed for the Driver is 108 mph.....
When i hit the FG Tours the felt lovely i found them very easy to hit for a tour iron but what puzzled me was that i wasn't hitting my usual shot with them.....I was hitting the ball with a slight draw which i found odd.
Should i be using stiff shafts (S300) in these irons or should i opt for the regular.
The ball flight was penetrating and when i went back to hitting my Di7 they felt clunky and dead....
I admit i probably will give into buying these but i cant get hold of one with a stiff shaft to demo.....All opinions greatly appreciated.
Mike.

Your going to get the stock answer from me i'm afraid, Go and get fitted properly. Go to Mizuno at that!

Why do you want to hit a fade? Surely if the regular shafts are going well, slight draw, they are the ones for you?

Sorry Murph i might have worded the post a bit wrong.
I usually hit a fade with my current irons im not worried what shape of shot i hit but im wondering would a stiff shaft in the FG tours have any advantage....Im not worried whether i play stiff or regular...
I also did a little research on the R300....They weigh 117 grams thats 12 grams more than my current irons so im thinking that even the R300's are stiffer than what im currently using which is maybe why i was hitting them better.

Hi tony im afraid that we have 4 golf shops in our city and i dont really trust the pro's in any of them as they only want to sell me what there using there just trying to shift product for there suppliers im afraid.
Im not a Mizuno fan so there out...

Why would he want to go to Mizuno? Mizuno don't make Wilson clubs?????

Why not find a club pro somewehre. If they are any good they should give you a more independant view. Might be more expensive ordering via them but at least you'll have something that works. Also they can have a look at your swing and give you some idea of what type of club/shaft you really need. Unless you are going to a proper C/F centre like Ping, Mizuno, Callaway etc I don't hold huge sway on data from machines in shops or at ranges (even dubious on demo days)

The only reason I say go mizuno as they fit you in for 90 mins, full fitting, costs nothing and no obligation to buy. That will give you some idea of what shafts you should be using and atleast you'll be in a better position to narrow it down when you choose

Swing speed doesn't really provide all the answers with iron shafts. A lot depends on how you load the shaft.

In theory you should get more control with stiffer shafts but may lose distance.

I was once told that you should play with the softest flex that you can control. Not that I can control any flex that well!
