seve trophy

No, never has been, never will be.

Despite what some people like Monty say pro golfers do not need to practice matchplay, it's still just golf. It's an exhibition match, no harm in it but it slips under the radar really. Judging by the tiny crowd watching it doesn't seem to have much appeal.

Golf is not complicated - Fewest shots wins. Hit fairways, hit greens, sink putts....simple.

Sorry, cant agree birdieman.
There's a huge difference between a 4 round stroke play tournament and 18 hole matchplay head to head.
Have you been on the whisky? ;) :p

Matchplay is popular with both players and fans, it is the equivalent of crickets twenty-20,you can have all the excitement and a result in 4 hrs or so. I think there should be more events.

Its a cr@p spectacle full stop.

Just watch Stenson, his whole demeanor says I cant be arsed with this p15h!

Its a break from the run-of-the-mill tour events.
As Birdieman says its an exhibition match - much in the same way the Ryder Cup is. Ok the RC is a bigger one but its an exhibition all the same.
I don't understand why some of the guys who are playing it look like they don't want to be there - noboby's making them play are they?
I'd prefer to see another tour event in the UK.

No whisky Bob. :p
Just think that they make so much of the difference in formats when it suits them. It used to be saids that Europe won the Ryder Cup so often because their players practised matchplay. No one is saying that now as the US won the last one. It's just who putts better on the week wins it seems to me, that's all.

I like the Seve Trophy, it comes at a nice time of the year when all the majors are over, although, I'm not to bothered about the outcome, i just think that it makes a nice change from watching strokeplay.

After everything that Seve has been through this year you would think the very least the top European tour players could put a little bit of time aside to play in the mans tournament. If it wasn't for the likes of Sevy half of 'em would be earning peanuts.

Hear Hear!

Its OK. I think a few of the GB guys (Wood in particular) are doing their chances of impressing Monty some good and may be ont eh edge of the radar come pick time. I think it had more charisma when Seve was the European captain but I think that says more about the man than the contest. Its an interesting viewing spectacle on the TV as a change from normal European events but not a reall edge of your seat thing.

To be fair I find the Dunhill pretty boring fare too. There is no flow to the coverage as it switches between courses and to be fair I'm not interested in seeing some unknown businessman or a Hollywood actor (with the exception of Samuel L) knock it round. I'd preferred the old nations cup thing where there were just pros and a bit of national pride involved.

Dunhill Cup is a waste of time, you only need to look at the size of the crowds to see that. The old Dunhill was fantastic tournament.
Homer why oh why would watching Samuel L Jackson hacking around be of interest to you?

I think it's a shame that more's not made of the Seve Trophy. I far prefer watching the team matchplay formats. Shame the pros don't seem to hold it in high regard.

Homer,

If we are looking at having players like Chris Wood in the team we may as well just tell the Yanks to keep the trophy and not bother their backsides comming across the pond!

The Seve trophy is a pathetic spectacle and lets face facts, players like Rock, Webster, Wood wont be near the Ryder Cup team. That was their Ryder Cup.
