Seve has been a wonderful patron to the game. He has inspired millions and shown how golf can be so exciting to the many millions that dont play the game. Seve is a Golfing Legend and Desreves his Award!!

I think Seve was the Jack of that generation, in the same way Tiger is now they inspire peoples imaginations and make people want to play this great game.

Seve is a legend and deserves every award that recognises what he has done for golf.

I totally agree! There should be more people that wish to develop and inspire people. Tiger Woods has done the same job in this generation but following his recent findings, he has lost the respect of many people. Including his fans! Seve has never lost that respect from players and fans!

I didn't want to compare Seve directly to Tiger, given current feelings, as Seve never did anything but promote the world of golf in a very positive light, but there is no one else in the modern game with his ability to excite and inspire.

A True Golfing Legend and an inspriration to all that ever seen him play. I really hope that he will be well enough to play at St Andrews and I can see the great man one more time grace the fairways of the Old Course.
Well Done Seve.

A great legend indeed, but there is more chance that Tiger will have one of his slappers caddying for him than there is of Seve playing. Right now, surviving that long to even see it on TV is Seve's main objective.

Seve is an absolute legend, inspired millions to take up golf, always played with a smile and totally deserves his award.however why do we always give these awards to people who are dieing or have been ill, last year it was Bobby robson, these people should be recognised earlier.

Seve is divorced... some inspiration that is :D

I haven't lost any respect for Tiger at all, if he gets through this then I'll probably respect him even more!

When I grew up I heard more about Greg Norman than I did about Seve. Seve is only infamous because of his part in the more recent Ryder cups (which Norman couldn't enter).

I guess its not your fault you are ignorant.

Seve should have been given that award years ago.

Says its all when one of the first people to phone him after his operation was Big Jack.
Ask Norman if Seve deserved the award, i think he would probably slap you for asking such a stupid question.

JUstTheOne.............I'm divorced!!??
Has'nt helped my golf either###''//
Jimbo :)

Yup, I'm divorced too (probably because I'm ignorant) so I'm hardly going to knock Tiger for dipping his wick but I'd hardly say Seve was a role model for life either... golf yes but do I respect him any more than Tiger? No.

Good point about people having to be nearly dead before they achieve an award, probably helps them jump the queue

An absolute genius and the sole reason I started playing. A living legend and great to see him get the recognition he deserved even if the handing over of the award by Olly was cringeworthy

Cringeworthy???......you must have a heart of stone Homer!!!
As soon as Olly filled up, i was gone, blubing like a big girl!!!!

I just thought it was a bit OTT. Maybe I'm callous or maybe its because Seve and Olly are like brothers I don't know but I just found it uncomfortable to watch

Uncomfortable to watch - that'd be the Susan Boyle thing on Sunday night. Cringeworthy isn't the word!!!

Maybe you missed the Seve years?

He was and is an absolutely inspirational figure to me. Without question one of my heroes. The way he played the game was magnificent and all done with majestic charisma and passion. I think he has always seemed like an honourable man too. Thoroughly decent. I admire the way he has fought against his illness recently as well. Definitely a legend of golf in my view.

Norman was great too and I admire him but he isn't in the same bracket as Seve.

And I haven't lost any respect for Woods either but that is down to the fact that since his behaviour deteriorated, I haven't had a scrap of respect for him. He is a petulant, ill-mannered, spolit brat who spits on the fairways, swears in front of women and children after a bad shot and generally comes across as unlikeable.

His infidelity compounds this. I cannot understand how any one could admire him for anything other than his golfing ability. He is certainly no role model. He is certainly not like Seve!

I guess I did :D

I'm not saying he doesn't deserve his award as an ambassador to the game and overall great player but just don't see that he is any better example at living his life than Tiger. Currently Tiger remains married, Seve's differences led to a divorce... which is the point of the post. No one could doubt his ability or contribution to the game.
