Sentinalese kill ‘missionary’

We have laws that define what we can and can't do.
Other countries have laws that differ from ours.
They may have a law that says they can fire on trespassers...

I used to work with a guy who was killed in the US by a home owner, obviously I don't know the full story but heard he was lost and was round the back of the house trying to get an answer (guessing he got no answer at the front door) owner came out, shot and killed him, wasn't even charged.

This missionary spent years researching this community. He knew what he was getting into. He just thought he was above all that. Guess what, he wasn't. God did not leap in and protect him. He knew the likely outcome, just ignored it.

Exactly. Hardly like he went in unprepared and should have known the risks

That's possibly because, for a lot of Christian denominations, God doesn't work in that way...:)

He had faith and felt he was doing the right thing. Doing the right thing is often very difficult and can be risky - he would have known the risk he was taking - but there you go...and there he has gone...

Doing the right thing? The tribes people on that island are protected. It's illegal to land on the island. He could have been carrying a disease that wiped out the entire population. How on earth can that be considered "doing the right thing"? He'd done research on all of that and still chose to go. In my book that makes him a selfish (insert strongest possible infractional term).

I am not saying whether I think what he did was the right thing - but in doing what he did he must have thought that he was doing the right thing.

(I don't think it was the right thing to do).

Not really - after all the gospels were written in very patriarchal times - so of course God would be a man...

Besides - Christ also called Peter his rock - not sure that he actually meant that Peter was a rock.

God is just God. This guy had a faith in his God that he hoped would see the islanders consider him different from any other interloper - and so welcome him with open arms... Just a pity the islanders didn't get the message. As we all sometimes don't get the message :)
