Sentinalese kill ‘missionary’

Can't or won't ?

So praying is a waste of time then

God is just God. This guy had a faith in his God that he hoped would see the islanders consider him different from any other interloper - and so welcome him with open arms... Just a pity the islanders didn't get the message. As we all sometimes don't get the message :)

So having faith is also a waste of time as in this case his faith got him killed.

Just to clarify.........
John Chau wasn't some lone religious preacher, he was sent on this mission by his church

Mr Chau went to “share the love of Jesus,” said Mary Ho, international executive leader of All Nations.

All Nations, a Kansas City, Missouri-based organisation, helped train Mr Chau, discussed the risks with him and sent him on the mission, to support him in his “life’s calling,” she added.

Not really - after all the gospels were written in very patriarchal times - so of course God would be a man...

Besides - Christ also called Peter his rock - not sure that he actually meant that Peter was a rock.

Why is it a pity? Missionarys destroyed indigineous people and their cultures years back, just because they the missionaries were right and the non belieiving indigineous peoples needing saving?.....

Also goes to show you blind faith gets you no-where.

No - praying is not a waste of time - for many of faith what God does not do is such as physically 'leap in and protect him'.

Yes - his faith got him killed. That's how it has always been - the thing about having faith being that things don't always work out as you'd hope. But that's the price to pay for having a faith. Sometimes the price paid is very high - sometimes the price paid is insignificant.

Mr Chau paid the ultimate price

It depends what you pray for.
If you pray for a man in the sky to save you then yes imo it is.
If you pray because it makes you feel better then that’s your prerogative.

My views on ALL religions are well known to all. Part of my dislike/loathing/scorn comes from the belief that theirs is the correct one and that it should be spread far and wide and that as many people as possible should join them.(Veganism sits in this category for me too)

There was zero and I mean ZERO reason for him to go to that island and foist his beliefs on those people!

You can foist all you want - but if those you are addressing are not interested or are actively hostile - then you get whatever or little outcome you get.

In this case I believe he should have respected the wishes of the islanders and he should not have gone.

If they are correct, 1.8 BILLION muslims are going to be disappointed because they both can't be right but they can both be wrong.

If faith got John Chau killed, I think I'll give faith a miss.

If he was sent to an almost certain death then do those doing the sending not have to take responsibility, have they too been arrested like the fisherman that took him to the island?

Believing in Gods one thing, but don't expect anyone to be able to do the latter;)

To be honest, even if he did exist, I’m not sure he’d be able to sort that mess out.
It’d be easier herding cats
