Just wondered how it works. Ive brought a few bits and never had a problem. Thought I'd try it from the other side.

So I've sold a driver on it, it's been payed for and I've dispatched it. So 2 questions really,

they've taken £3.01 off what I received, is this all I have pay or should I expect a bill from eBay? And
it says it may take 21 days before I can use the money, is this the norm?

You'll get charged 10% of total sale price Inc postage. Money should be available straight away if you accept PayPal.

Cheers for the reply

It sold for £83 in total, they taken 3 off, do you know what that's for if I have to pay 10% as well
Will I get a bill or does it come out automatically?

You get stung twice if you use paypal. They take a cut as well as ebay. It's starting to become a farce. Personally I think ebay was ruined by allowing business type selling, it should have been left as a market place for private sellers only. Ebay just got greedy.

Ebay is an auction and thats how they make money. It's no different to any other auction which will typically charge 15-20 percent of sale value as a fee.
To the op, the £3.01 will be the paypal fee. You will be billed monthly for any ebay charges, which will be automatically taken from your card.

The £3 is for using paypal, the finally selling fee is extra.
It may take a while to release the money to start if you want to transfer to bank but once verified you should be about to do it immediately from paypal to bank. Or alternative just spend it on another shiney. :D

Recently, eBay have been delaying releasing money to new sellers as a kind of security measure - not sure why but there you go.
EBay is becoming expensive when you add in all the costs.
You virtually have to use PayPal so you get stung twice for the privilege!
So your £83 becomes £72.....

Even a good item with a good brand name can sell for less than you want as it all depends who wants what...if nobody needs your item then you're not going to make a good price.
Postal charges have got silly too.
People still use RM and charge £12+ when other options are available at less than a fiver....
It all adds up in the end.

As a new seller they "hold" the money for a few weeks in case of any problems, bloody annoying but it does go away quite quickly

I sell on ebay all the time it is a bit expensive to sell some things but it is the easiest way to shift stuff

If you want to know how much they will charge you, simply check your Account Summary.

You can pay that with an immediate Paypal transaction, so that the funds in Paypal are all yours - though there is still a risk that the recipient will come back with an issue, minimal if you have received Feedback from them.

If you balance your purchases and sales it's not a bad way to conveniently trade your unwanteds for things you want/need. There are other benefits too, for things not readily available from the High St. I recently purchased some Castor Oil to soften, seal and waterproof some FJ Classics that the previous owner had mistreated. No nearby Supermarket or Chemist stocks it, apparently because a couple of pregnant idiots decided to us it to induce labour! And you can create 'Search' entries to have it do your searching for any slightly exotic stuff you might consider purchasing if they come up at a good price.
