Money List Winner
Had a fantastic away win today in our scratch match.
Leading the foursomes 3-1 after the morning session, it looked like we would get a comfortable win, but some of our top players lost early on in the singles and all of a sudden the win was no longer as nailed on as it looked.
I'd put myself out 7th, and when my guy behind me lost 7&5 I knew the result was going to come down to my match.
It had been a ding dong battle, with me going 2 up early on and then getting pegged back. When he holed a 25 footer for birdie at the 15th to go 1 up, I knew I had to dig deep.
I birdied the next to square it again.......
Their captain was out in the buggy and let us know the results up ahead........they were winning the singles 4-3......if I lost my match we would finish 6-6.
The 17th was a 230 yard par 3..........I knocked it onto the green and he was just short. I went on to win it with a par.
The feeling of relief that came over me was immense. I had just won the match for us!!
Unfortunately, I took my foot off the gas and he won the last, but the half was good enough for a 6 1/2 to 5 1/2 win.
To be honest, I don't think my guys had given me much hope against this opponent as he was a 4.8 handicapper, and playing away, they weren't too hopeful.........so sitting on the patio watching us play the 18th, when they saw me mess up the 18th, they feared the worst........the look on their faces when they heard I'd pulled off a half was a joy to behold.
Sorry about the long post, but I'm sitting here like a cat that's got the cream.
Thats 2 wins from 2 now and a very elusive away win. It's my first season as captain and a lot of people at the club don't think I should even be in the team, let alone captain, so the start we have made feels very, very sweet......cheers everyone.....
