Well aware of black oxide, bluing, carbon steel, free cutting stainless, en1 en3 en8......as you said the scotty is stainless and should not rust if looked after.

If you want to check, a magnet will stick to carbon steel but not stainless. Not true some types of stainless have magnetic properties........I use it.

Shepherd Neame make a very nice Spitfire. I try to put myself outside of a couple of pints of it every week.

Keeps me from going rusty, anyway.

I use gun oil - every now and again not just on the Scotty but on the irons - no rust yet

Not true Murph, EN numbers are still widely used for steels.

Most stainless steel will fall into the 300 or 400 brackets i.e 316 - 304 etc.
