Scotty Cameron Putters - Why so popular?

I know that a lot of tour pro's use them, but just browsing ebay while the Mrs watches some mince on tv......

What makes them collectable, or, to be more precise bleedin expensive?

Particularly tour models, they're going for £000's?
 
'cos they cost a fortune and are very good putters. Same reason Galvin's are popular... some people always have to have "the best" even if you can have two that are 90% as good for the same price. Same with everything.... cars, TV's, cameras, Hi-fi etc. If you can afford it then why not I suppose?

True.

I get that with the "normal" putters.

What I don't get is that the same model of putter with "Tour Only" stamped on it is then worth £3,000 instead of £200?

I must admit I never really tried them before but had a roll with a couple the other week and they were very nice.

With my putter addiction the last thing I need is to start buying these :)
 
The feel you get is second to none and they can look like a thing of beauty. Alignment with the the things is a nightmare though hence mine is going.
 
Well I think mine looks beautiful and feels beautiful. Bought it with some windfall money as a treat as I had to stop playing for a year due to illness.

I'm not a rich guy or particularly materialistic but I love golf and it's just a nice thing for me to have a club which is as good as money can buy. I'll never be able to afford a Merc or a Rolex so it's a bit of affordable luxury as a well as being a great bit of kit.
 
the general release putters for me are the best on the market hence why I currently have 3 of them! As for the tour only (circle T) ones I guess its a collectible like any other to some people, personally dont get it and couldnt justify the price above the retail versions to use
 
if you are lucky you can get them for a good price, ive two and they are the best and easiest i've used. I've had a ping, a cobra, a dunlop and odessey hic and i wouldnt swap from a scotty now.....
 
I had a Newport 2 and absolutely hated it. Got no feeling from it ... And let's be honest it was hardly an original design, unless you wipe out the Anser from history :)
 
They are lovely, I had a red x but after a couple of years swapped it out for an Odyssey #1, if i can afford and 'anser' style Scotty in the future I would definitely get one.

The expensive one, and the expensive headvocers are limited edition and are very very collectable, Scotty makes Putter display cabinets for collectors so if you buy one of the first run or a T stamp tour edition it could in all likelihood go up in price.

About 7/8 years ago i bought one for my GF at the time, we were both playing golf and I bought her a 'My Girl'. I got it directly from Scotty's online shop and it was about £250.Its a lovely looking putter and she loved it, anyway we have since split up and its probably still in the loft collecting dust along with her Cally X16's and Great Big Bertha II Woods ! Particularly annoying as she still owes me a stack of cash!

I just saw one on Ebay - it will probably go for over a grand!

Only just bought a new scotty off a mate and i love it, came from a odessey 2 ball putter i used to use but the shaft was slightly bent. Just felt like a i needed a change as my long putts were struggling with the odessey and i havent looked back since.

I do feel they are very overpriced though.
 
Never really got on with them in terms of feel or looks and have never understood why they are so expensive. Even the milled Ping Anser, the orginal and still the best are cheaper and to be honest feel much nicer to my mind. Putting is such a personal and emotive thing that Cameron are no good or you are paying way over the odds and so if you have one and it gets it in the hole then fair dos. Not for me I'm afraid. Tempted by the Odyssey milled faced putters due out later in the year so may hold off trying the milled Anser for a bit longer as the odyssey #9 is tempting me

I suppose this was the point I was trying to make.

Why are they collectable though? Any more so than, say, an Odyssey that's been used on tour?
 
Never liked the feel of scottys. I tried load and loads, just couldn't find one I liked. I was in the pro shop one afternoon and spied a cleveland putter that a member was selling. From the first putt I feel in love. I went home and bought a brand new one for £35 from ebay. It was pointed out to me a few months later that its near enough a copy of a scotty cameron california del mar. Went out and tried the scotty and was still not impressed.

My shortstick in one club in my bag I could see myself never changing.

Not quite. My first putter was a ACM Bullet for £10. That was like a piece of **** on a chunk of metal. No chance of any feel off that thing.
