Scottish independence and The Open

And any chat about Barnett formula subsidies/failed banks can be dismissed with two words: oil/gas. Did you know Scotland has more oil on it's continental shelf than Kuwait?

So why would Scotland be ranked between Hungary & Romania in terms of economics? I think they would be ranked 18th in Europe.

Anyway it doesnt matter because it will never happen and anymore "freedom" Scotland gets will have to be paid for by their own tax payers rather than the UK as a whole.

I just find Salmond a total nonce, when the world is in recession and everyone is struggling this selfish lot who by a huge margin got us into this mess want independence lol.

I find it annoying that scotland wants its own independance, yet as soon as a scottish bank wastes all its money the english have 2 bail it owt,if the scots want there own independence in my veiw its all or nothing

What about it's huge office complex in Southend? If it was allowed to go under then all of those people lose their jobs. And before anyone says that they're all 'city traders' on millions - they're not. They're mostly call centre/admin staff.

Although it's name states Scotland, it's like all the big banks, it's multinational so allowing it to go under affects many countries.

Any one find it at all odd that of the 60 odd billion owed by Dubai, half of it was lent by British banks? Why do we go through the same rubbish every time? Is no one else this stupid or is it a British thing?

There will be collateral off the back of it though. For example, RBS, etc were lent £61 billion but they gave the government £100 billion in collateral.

Sorry, but I didn't realise that is was only the ENGLISH taxpayers that are having to bail out the banks. :D
This is what pi$$es the Scots off, the fact that folk and the media south of the border think of the whole of the UK as England.

HSBC & Santander where British

Heck, does anybody in Scotland actually pay any tax? I thought it was an English thing.

Of course we do, we had the Poll Tax before anyone else. In fact we invented tax, just like we invented television, penicillin, drinking to excess, tarmacadam, telephones and fire. All Scottish things.

That is a stunningly ignorant statement.

I suppose Abbey, Barclays, Lloyds, HSBC, Nationwide, Standard Chartered, Northern Rock et al were all innocent and the 'evil' Scots in charge of HBOS and RBS made them do it and then ran away?

Both you and Parmo might want to do some reading on the causes of the Worldwide recession before spouting your semi zenophobic and comically innacurate ramblings on the internet.

Anyway, Scotland wont leave the Union, so I wouldn't worry about the future of The Open.

Comical innacuracy is the bedrock of this forum and, for that matter, the British banking system.

And semi zenophobic spouting is just not on, we want proper xenophobic spouting about the English inventing the Kilt and a Scotsman writing "Swing Low Sweet Chariot".
