Just read the proposals launched by the SNP today for the vote on Scottish independence. If the vote was for a total breakaway, would that be the end of The Open at the scottish courses ? Unthinkable not to play it in Scotland, but if it's no longer part of Britain surely it can't host the British open

I dont know anyone who would vote for outright independence. Fat Boy Dim is just on an ego trip. He knows he is out on his arse at the next election and wants this to be his legacy instead of ... eh ... free parking in hospitals and cheap prescriptions when half the bloody country is swinging the chuffing lead.

FYI, the application form - should you be good enough to fill one in - is headed and titled

THE XXX OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP.

It will always be THE Open and should be refered to it as such (in my humble opinion).

let's look at it another way.

After devolution we'll be playing all The Open Championships in Salmondland from then on. After all, The Open was instigated by Prestwick Golf Club and subsequently in its present form, by The R&A, The Honourable Comapany and Prestwick. All Scottish clubs.

So you lot better het yer own championship ;)

It will however be the Diddy Championship, 'cause whe have the real one ;)

Thankfully the desire for Independence seems to be waning. I find the SNP's tartan/haggis/misty glens/braveheart angle a bit crap. And putting John Swinney in charge of tax and spending is like asking King Herod to come round and babysit.

I find it annoying that scotland wants its own independance, yet as soon as a scottish bank wastes all its money the english have 2 bail it owt,if the scots want there own independence in my veiw its all or nothing

The question you should be asking is 'What happens when Scotland gains it's rightful independence and The R&A decide to host their tournament in Scotland every year, what happens to us English?' ;)

Not wanting to get into a debate about full devolution of powers, but I reckon golf will be pretty low down the list, and I reckon we'll still allow our southern neebs to participate in our fine sport. :D

And any chat about Barnett formula subsidies/failed banks can be dismissed with two words: oil/gas. Did you know Scotland has more oil on it's continental shelf than Kuwait?
