Linden Hall is just north of Morpeth in Northumberland. Bear that in mind if thinking of playing there. Not that close to any of the other courses quoted.

Muckhart (ex-member), Pitreavie (ex-reciprocal), Dukes are the picks out of the ones I have played

Definitely avoid Ballumbie Castle (one of those modern courses routed around housing and is just plain rubbish because of it), Elmwood is plain and inoffensive yet slightly boring, Dougalston is ok I suppose but very tight.

Muckart has supposedly been a disaster last few seasons, my apprentice left there because the quality was gash. There was also someone on here not long ago left because of the condition of it.

That would be me. Condition if the courses has been terrible over the last two years. The seniors section took over running the place and were running it for their benefit.
Would not recommend it at all.
Now at Pitreavie (reciprocal with Muckhart ended two years ago but no one mentioned it), better condition course, BUT we have some drainage work being carried out that will affect things til May or June, so plan wisely.

Real pity that imo, I really enjoyed it when I was at uni in Stirling. Was probably just before the issues as I remember conditions always being quite good. Left probably the year before Greig noticed it going off.

I agree, didn't realise it was so bad until Greig mentioned it, went and asked my former apprentice and he said the same.
Shame as it had always been a nice course when I played it.

Used to be great. You knew the greens would always be top notch but in the last two years, last year especially, you didn't know week to week what you were going to get and then green to green the consistency was terrible.
But it all came down to the committee vetoing the green keepers maintenance schedule time and again as it meant work being done through the week when the seniors use the courses most.
It was short sighted to say the least and I will be amazed if the club exists in two years time.
