We are currently looking into ways in which we could run a live scoreboard within the club on big occasions such as open competitions and club finals. We currently employ a manual scoreboard (whiteboard) but I believe other clubs use projectors or TV screens etc.
I'm interested to hear the pros and cons of any methods employed and particularly any software that is available to facilitate this. We use Club2000 Handicap System and their leaderboard function is very basic and doesn't do countback so can be misleading.
Any help appreciated.

I'm sure you can hire those ones you see at pro-ams and regional pro tournaments where basically you have letters and numbers and update the scores per hole or per round.

I love the idea of being able to see what is happening as you finish 9 or your round.

depends where you want to put it, out on course or in the bar.

if the latter, run it from a laptop connected to big screen(s). might also be possible to put laptop and screen on a buggy (power supply permitting)

our course has screens in the clubhouse that are linked live to the computer in the shop which needs to be manually updated by someone sitting there. Means everyone can see the scores come in though. For general comps, once you've entered your scores into the touchscreen computer in the locker room, these scores also come up on the screens in the clubhouse bar.

Our scoring system has a few windows hidden on the score input machine though with just the numeric pad available (keyboard and mouse are locked away) we never get to see the leaderboard. I think im going to suggest that a second screen, if even just a cheapy 32" plasma is hooked up to it through the wall into the back bar , we can all have a nosey before and after we go out. It shouldnt be kept secret afterall.

Played a tourny in Ireland this year and the committee had set up a couple of screens in the clubhouse.

One had a live feed from a par 3 on the course so you could watch all the crappy shots around the green and have a good laugh. (I took a 6 there so knew a few peeps would be choking with laughter on their lunch )

The other screen had a live update of the scores as they came in , rolling through on individual gross and nett scores and also the team scores.

It was a very impressive set up and I hadnt seen anything like it before

the reason some clubs dont do it is it stops cheating, which happens in alot of clubs for instance if player 79 knows there is 39 points winning he and his playing partner can cheat i know its been done in our club before
