Hello All

Since i haven't been a member anywhere for 3 years, i wanted to keep tabs on what my handicap is , based on what it was when i left the club i was a member at.

I used the Score Tracker service and i found it useful and has enabled me to play in members invitational events using the hcp cert you get, along with a print out with my scores (i get no issues due to my hcp and therefore i dont get accused of being a bandit!)

Now my question is this. I will be joining a club next year, as i am using 2012 to get the "juices flowing" after a 3 year break (i played just 6 rounds in 09&10).

Can i use this handicap when i join as a way of getting round handing in 3 cards???

if i have to then i will, but i'll be around the same hcp.

Cheers all

Not to my knowledge. Even if you had an inactive CONGU handicap it would need re-activating by submitting cards, so I do not believe you can join with a handicap maintained by any other means.

That could prove interesting if you and your partner come in the prizes. As it's not an official handicap you shouldn't really be using it in competition at all.

Your handicap became void when you resigned membership of your last club 3 years ago. You have to go through the process as laid out by your new club I'm afraid.

I am fully aware that i do not have an official handicap, but when i left my previous club, my hcp was 3.1 (3) and therefore i have maintained my scores honestly and truthfully. the handicap you see in my sig is based on the above and personally maintained in accordance to CSS and par for the tee i play off, so if i play naff it goes up etc...

as you can see, it has come down a bit , which is nice, BUT it is still the same as it was, which is pleasing for me as i beleive that i can lower it when i join up next year.

As the comp i have played in have either been corporate or member invitational and the format being better-ball s/ford or nett (so , non-qualifying) a hcp isnt needed, but i take it and show them anyway, so i can't be deemed as "cheating" my way to a prize.

Richuk, your new club will have no way of knowing whether these scores have been marked for you by someone else, as required for handicap purposes, which is just one of many reasons why online records will not be accepted when allocating a CONGU handicap. The certificates these services provide are a guide only, but worthless when it comes to official handicap requirements.

As i posted, if i have to do 3 cards, then no problem, but while i could post 3 super rounds and get a lower handicap, I may also hand in 3 shockers and get a higher handicap, which i wouldn't be happy with as it may not show a good representation on my game thus getting hcp committee to believe i have done it on purpose, in order to gain more shots.

i hope people can see my point here, and while i knew before i posted what the answer might be, i just thought i'd ask

Can you be sure? No disrespect, but looking at your scores and where you play, it might be safest to play for the 3 cards. Depends where you join.

I joined Moseley having already played Lickey's +4 and Hatchford brook less than that. You sound a good player, don't get me wrong, but maybe best not to get ahead of yourself on this. 2.6 at Moseley or Kings Norton or Blackwell or (dare I say it, Little Aston) would make you better than the most of the top players in and around the Alliance Circuit.

I say this not to be annoying or demeaning, it's obvious you are good, but do you want to start off 3 at wherever you join, just to say you are off 3?

Maybe you do, maybe I'm wrong.

PS I was off 8.4 lowest at Moseley. :)

Unfortunately you will have to submit 3 new cards to get an official congu handicap active again, although Your 3 cards will be interesting reading for a handicap sec and cause quite a bit of kerfuffle I think as there is an issue with allocating cat 1 handicaps, I'm pretty sure these can only be intially allocated after consultation at county level. If you explain previous playing history It will help.

Yes, that's a point. Do the cards, tell them about your level gross rounds etc. and let the club fix it with the county.
