There was the Burger King Schools Golf League when I was a kid at school in Aberdeen. All matches played on either Auchmill, Hazlehead 2 or Balnagask (some of the city's municipal courses) and the final was usually held on Hazlehead 1. There was an individual championship that was held at Craibstone. I think we won it 2 years out of the three that I played. The mighty Bridge of Don Academy had a fine team.

The Paul Lawrie foundation has now taken over the running of the event which has obviously raised its profile greatly and it appears that the matches are no longer restricted to the municipal courses which is obviously a good thing. Was always a pretty fun event to play in and glad to see that its still going.

I used to be a Clubgolf coach and area CPO.

Great start, but no follow on.
All of this is political and part of the Soapy Salmond Ryder Cup Bid.

Lots of girls involved in my area but most of the Ladies clubs in my area will not allow them to become members, even though quite a lot of women are coaching.

The system needs joined up thinking, something I have noticed that many Scottish Golf Clubs are not good at.
They should examine the SFA system and copy.

Starting to.....you must have noticed all of the good young players coming through at Dundee United, Hearts, Kilmarnock etc.
The SPL sometimes looks like the under 19's league.

My old club had loads of 4 or 5 handicap golfers who always said the CSS (was short course) wouldn't ever allow them to get to scratch - they've got a few juniors who are 1 or scratch now after club golf initiative and loads more interested and playing
